Who votes for a governor that is an anti semite, alt-right, downright traitor to the US?

Funny. The alt-right anti-semites consider Youngkin a traitor.

McAuliffe was governor when he let pass the weakening of math standards set up by the previous governor's team. And he will do it again with the bigger weakening of math standards happening now.

Youngkin said he would fire the team.

No, I will not vote for Youngkin. The GOP trends nationally won't allow me to. I will however consider voting for a moderate for the School Board (assuming they can find one). But I can't stand the pandering to the worst amongst us in the name of a vote and if I have to err, I'll err on the side of the Dems.

Why is this thread allowed on a FCPS board and not in politics where it belongs. Why do you wack jobs have to ruin every board. You'll find a way to post this crap in travel next

Equity clearly means make everything mediocre. It seems that education policy now is about artificially getting rid of highs and lows so everyone can be in the middle. These policies will prove to be disastrous. I won’t vote for McAuliffe. And yes, state policies absolutely affect schools at the local level.

So what would you suggest as a teacher? Go back to tracking? It’s not going to happen under Rs and Ds.

They haven't detracked yet. There are still honors classes in at least high school and many middle schools. Separate math tracks for now.

I can tell you what FCPS is planning on doing under VMPI, because I asked the K-12 math lead. In ES, at least, they plan to keep the tracks and continue with curriculum compacting (the way that for advanced math now 4th and 5th grade math are compacted into 1 year split across 3rd and 4th grade) such that kids can still take at least multivariable calculus/linear algebra in HS - I didn't ask about differential equations. They are not yet sure in what grade they will do the curriculum compacting under VMPI, but they do believe it's an option. However they plan to somehow - and this is where I find things sound good but are very unclear - make the math tracks less static. Kids will somehow be able to get into advanced math somewhere after when the compacting starts (3rd right now) but before just making some sort of huge jump or taking summer school for HS math in middle. They plan to do this through fuzzy-sounding curriculum differentiation, so I guess it means that a teacher is supposed to notice if a kid has suddenly started showing extra math aptitude and make sure they are ready to jump up to the compacted class the following year via additional/different assignments?

It all sounds pretty rough to actually implement on the ground.

Yeah, 28+ students per class does that

Mcauffle is pro vancine mandate for kids.

That seems likely. Lol.

No, there are literally right-wing groups openly doing this. One infiltrated the TJ PTA and imploded it.

DP. What on earth are you babbling about? Links? The Coalition for TJ isn't "right-wing." They are fighting to keep TJ's admission standards selective. I don't even have kids at TJ, but can completely understand why the admissions standards shouldn't be watered down in the name of "diversity."

Parents Defending Education (definitely right-wing/Koch associates) had an exec member on the TJ PTA and coordinated to install a new president.

Any actual reputable links proving a Koch association? No? Then I guess you're lying. Again.

Sure.

Parents Defending Education is full of Koch associates and Trump activists. Here is the board:

And here are their connections to Koch/Trump.

Nomani is a Trump/Youngkin activist:

Nomani was elected as secretary to the TJ PTA and helped support the election of the current president in a dramatic takeover. They did all kinds of shady stuff as part of the PTA. I’ll have to dig up those old posts too.

There’s definitely something shady about any parent defending education.

I stand with Democrats, especially childless ones, who want to dismantle and disrupt systems of hierarchy and oppression like science and technology magnet schools.

"There’s definitely something shady about any parent defending education."

Why would that be shady? Parents are supposed to advocate for this.

They aren’t really though. They just push GOP talking points/lies under the guise of “education”.

They DGAF about students, they just want your vote.

You're being dismissive about their concerns. Parents have every right to complain how things have been handled by the Democrats.

These aren’t just “parents” though. This isn’t just a “grassroots” organization.

This is a well-organized group of GOP political operatives pushing GOP taking points.

If they cared about students they wouldn’t work their way into PTA executive boards to include inflammatory messages in newsletters. They wouldn’t be pushing blatant lies in the name “education”.

The democrats do the exact same thing and have an amole share of crazy radical billionaires pushing their agenda on local school boards and local races. You are just mad to see the other side adopt your playbook.

Besides, you would very hard pressed to find an active advocy group in this DC metro area, left or right, that did not have ties to national political groups and evil billionaires with radical agendas. This goes for both sides.

Nope. There is no “both sides” here.

There is no DNC-affiliated fake “grassroots” parent organization pushing lies.

Nope. On the Dem side it’s Randi Weingarten and Kim Adams and the NEA/VEA/FEA agendas. Which have very little to do with kids.

- are you really that afraid people will learn the truth about how terrible McAuliffe will be for our schools and our children’s future?

We’ve reached the point that my kid’s AP Psychology exam was cancelled— because it falls on an O Day. If she wants to sit for it, she has to do so during makeup days, which are a week before she graduates mood luck with that.

Once a public school system has decided not to allow any kids in the system to sit for a national exam because some kids from one religion might have to use makeup days as accommodations, it’s gotten out of hand.

I also have a TJ alum and am furious at the new admissions standards— or lack thereof.

Not voting for more of the same. I voted for Youngkin today. And you can do the “you were never a Dem to being with” thing. But, this is my first R vote in a general election (I’ve taken the R ballot a couple of times in primaries, for example to vote against Trump).

I have written members, attended townhall, watched SB meeting, signed petitions and carried signs. And it has made no difference. We can’t keep going like this.

And no. I’m not a moron. I’m pretty clear eyed about who Youngkin is. But, I also know that McAuliffe is in bed with teachers unions, and they are the ones who kept school closed last year.
