Can anyone who attended let us know if this is accurate?

$7000 to play soccer ?

Yes, you can pay $150-$200 to play neighborhood rec, $300-$400 to play challenge rec, $1200 to play competitive local travel, $2500 to play competitive Regional travel or up to $7000 to play competitive national/regional travel.

There is something for everyone.

This is a joke, right?

What you just wrote blatantly shows that the upper levels are only for kids who have parents with very deep pockets--definitely not everyone.

I've seen some great $75 Rec players (and players at our local pick up fields that aren't on any formal team) that have trouble getting rides to local practices and games with parents could never afford the price of travel and beyond.

Well this is the system. If parents can't afford it, then they can't afford it. Pay to play limits the talent pool. I hope you are talking to some coaches at your club to maybe get those stud kids at pick up a scholarship on the travel team.

^^sigh. That will increase my own fees. It's already a bite in my own pocketbook with multiple kids playing. More charity cases means higher fees for everyone else in the Club.

If you are DA though, no fees at all correct?

Also, if a child is playing up as a U10 or U11, can they play up onto a DA? Do current 04 DAs allow any 05s for example?

DAs charge. Only the MLS academies subsidize or pay it all. DCU currently charges as they are putting their money into the new stadium. You are allowed to play up in DA.

Yes, younger players can make DA and play up as long as they are better than those others looking for spots.

Not true. Some pro clubs pick up the tab, )see L.A. Galaxy), but most do not.

Why are you shaking your head?

Here is a list of the fees:
T-shirt (Uniform)
Referee fees. Yes, the games have a referee and they are not free.
Field rental fees. Your school and Parks and Rec do not provide use for the fields or facilities for free. Generally a rec team practices twice a week and has one game.
Insurance.

True, but most DAs are significantly cheaper than non-DA regional or national teams at the HS ages, and they are very generous with scholarships. If you are highly talented and from a low-income family you likely can play for free or close to free at many, and this includes the non-MLS DAs.

That is much different than saying "If you are DA though, no fees at all correct?".

Out of the gate the DA does not charge clubs for officiating, or tournament fees. For national championships only are travel fees picked up by DA.

It is up to clubs to determine how they need to or wish to charge for their program.

I understand all of those fees and I know that it doesn't add up to anything close to that. U6/U7s are probably not using refs either. It's not all clubs that charge this much.

Field fees are responsible for a lot of the increases in recent years.

Hey, we can't have a meals tax in Fairfax County, so we have to get people to pay up somehow, right?

Oh, you "know" what various field rental space costs are? When there are refs you know what they cost?

Your run of the mill Little minis soccer U4-u5 runs about $75 for 7 Saturday mornings, for roughly an hour.

U6-U8 with 4v4 officiated games and 2 practices a week? $150-$200.

And yes, some clubs will be cheaper than others and a percentage of the money goes back to the club as well. Call those "administrative fees".

But in general, the biggest expense is field space, regardless of the club or program.
