The whole wedding ceremony which cost them $46 million was African American focused, with the Baptist choir and the young musicians. It was wonderful and celebratory. There is no way an intrinsically racist family would ever have done all that. No way.

Only the dumbest and lowest of people would feel sorry for an institution that has enslaved and tortured millions of people throughout the world for hundreds of years. The negative effects of colonialism still exist and will continue to do so for a long time. But yay for glossing over all that with a Baptist choir!

Did you know that the British monarchy is a constitutional monarchy?

Yay for Meghan for choosing to marry into that very same institution!

Yay for her for marrying into it and destroying it from within.

Are you suggesting that is a good thing?

Except, as I have commented on many times before, she didn't. Because the UK is a constitutional monarchy. The Queen is the head of state. She, and the royal family in general, are completely enmeshed in our entire political system. The BRF are not partisan, it's true, but that doesn't mean they're not political. Even if people hate them as people (which, in general, people in the UK really don't care as much as people in the US), the thought of completely dismantling the entire political system is not even in the cards. It's ridiculously politically and economically irresponsible. It's not going to happen in our lifetimes so Harry can shout from the rooftops about how much he hates his family but the second QEII dies, Charles will be the next King.

Well I am obviously very dumb and very low for feeling sorry for this family then. How many years ago did the monarch stop enslaving and torturing? Just so I know which person to stop at in the family in terms of my empathy? Should I stop at William, Charles or the Queen? Or maybe they're ok and it was Victoria where it ended? You obviously are so much better informed and so much more of a humanist than I, maybe you can let me know and I can be suitably humbled.

I hope he gets to be King for a while. It must be so odd waiting decades for a job you've been training for all your life.

DP. What do you find so odd? He has been working for decades and clearly is in a leadership position, even if he is not the monarch. The vast majority of people spend their whole lives working without ever having a shot at a position like Charles’. He will be King and William too. The Brits may not always like the Royal Family, but they favor the institution of Monarchy. Maybe it reminds them of their glorious Imperial past or is the embodiment of the British spirit, no clue.

The stuff about the skin colour of the baby is obviously extremely disgusting if true but again, we don't know what was said and there's conflicting reports between the two of them with what actually happened. So there's that.

But I find the whole mental health stuff extremely weird. Why didn't Harry, as her husband, get her help? He had help - he had been going to see a therapist for years. He had a car. If I was him and my wife confessed to me that she was thinking about killing herself, I would not say "sorry dear, but we have an event to go to." I would say, we're going to the hospital. Or, let me call my therapist. Kate has cancelled engagements before because of her pregnancy sickness, William even cancelled an engagement once because he wanted to stay home with Kate when she was sick. Harry could have said sorry we have a stomach bug (since he himself said he was too embarrassed to tell his family), cancelled the engagement, and gotten Meghan help. I feel terrible that Meghan felt that that was her only way out but the blame for what happened, in my opinion, sits solely with Harry.

Because the whole thing was made up? He cancelled on an IRA bombing victims memorial so he could attend the Lion King and hustle Bob Igar for work, you think he would not cancel work if his wife was suicidal?

They concocted this whole thing since before the wedding. Harry wants the lifestyle of the billionaires he hung out with, without the work or the public pressure. He knows the only chip to trade is the Royal Brand; more power to him if companies want to pay him in exchange for attaching his name to a project.

Yup. I'm honestly totally fine that they want to move to California and do whatever the heck it is that they're doing. The Netflix deals, the Spotify stuff, books, CEOs of mental health orgs, you name it, have fun. What I really hate is them constantly trashing their family. If the worst thing that happened was that Kate made Meghan cry over some sort of bridesmaid dress kerfuffle when Meghan was about to get married and Kate was 2 seconds post-partum, do the Cambridges really deserve death threats??

We only have Meghan's version, since Kate won't talk.

Kate is too classy to air any dirty laundry or to pour fuel on the gossip fire by commenting.

NP Oh come on - it’s odd. He’s been the ‘future’ King for 70 years now. He’s watched his godchildren and heirs 20-40 years younger than him become monarch. Since Charles’ was twenty there have been two new monarchs each for Norway, Spain, Japan, Sweden and Netherlands FFS.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Karma.

She's reportedly been in-and-out of the hospital for an illness.

If by too classy you mean too incompetent. She tried to ice what’s her face out and it turned into an adultery scandal. She tried to do a Markle hit piece and it turned into the Kate the Great Tatler debacle.
