Bull. Using your definition, farting would be exercise, as would taking a poo. Merriam Webster: bodily exertion for the sake of developing and maintaining physical fitness |
| You don’t think a little kid doggy paddling around the pool is maintaining or developing her fitness? |
It doesn’t matter what we think. |
This. We won’t hit phase 3 until late July/early August. And yes, if Phase 3 (in general, not just pool-related) is supposed to be everything open but people still wearing masks indoors, continuing telecommuting if possible, avoiding crowded spaces if at high risk ... Phase 2 is way too restrictive in comparison. Other states have something like 6 phases to account for all these little baby steps toward reopening. How, in general, are we going to go from still VERY restricted to basically nothing except “suggestions?” Not pool-related, but I’d like to point out for those of you who, like me, care about public services: my parents and my in-laws live in Ohio and Pennsylvania. They have basically everything open except, like, live sporting events and amusement parks and even those are reopening later this month. They still can’t go to the library, and their playgrounds and rec centers won’t be reopening until later this week. I suspect that even if we go into Phase 3 in late July-early August, that the local governments will keep things closed as long as possible. |
It is not “exercise.” Two kids on pool floats using their arms to race themselves across the pool to see who is first are definitely developing arm strength but aren’t “exercising” as we all know the word to mean. If this were so, then any pool time at all would be ok and thy wouldn’t need the word exercise at all. Getting into a pool (jumping in, diving in, walking down the steps or ladder in- all would be exercise. Don’t be purposefully obtuse. Clearly this pool is bending the rules and knows it. It’s wrong but at least admit it’s wrong. |
How would you classify pool aerobics? That’s exercise that isn’t lap swimming. They focus on different muscle groups not unlike kids racing on floats (though one is obviously more stationary). |

Definition:
bodily exertion for the sake of developing and maintaining physical fitness Aquatic aerobics is exercise Splashing in a pool isn’t. If the definition is essentially moving at all, you’re including everything but pretty much being comatose. |

It may no be "exercise" but kids chasing each other and diving for things is definitely an exertion of energy.
It's all so stupid. As someone said above, thinking about it make me angry. And we also have family in many states and they are normal. It's so frustrating. But, what can we do? Can't move to another state randomly. The stupid thing is these kids in the pool are already allowed to play together. So, they can hang out in neighborhood or even each other's houses but then come to the pool and stay 10' apart? I say we go with the 50 person rule and it's at your own risk. If you don't want to go, then don't. Ask people to stay apart on deck and try to stay apart in the pool but that's it. He said 50 people and that's what should happen. We are going to church now inside with 200 people. I don't care that we have to wear masks....we are still doing it INSIDE. Or, a pool can mark off two lanes for people who want to stay apart and swim laps 3 to a lane or stand and cool off. The rest of the pool is open AT YOUR OWN RISK. |
This could work with a pool like ours with a good community. Everyone can work together and people know each other pretty well. Be respectful. We have the space to have dive well, two lanes and the rest open. Sign ups for 50 people per two hours or something. I don't know. It's getting way too complicated. |
| You can’t compare what other places are doing. Each county has its own population, testing, tracing, history of infections and death, etc. |
True. Just major state envy.
|
Pools are not limited to 50 people. |
Max 3 swimmers per lane.....unless your pool is absolutely enormous. |
Walking is exercise, right? Walking in a pool is exercise. I think kids splashing around in a pool are exercising--they are developing and maintaining their physical fitness. |
This is such a sad perspective. Yes of course it matters what we think!! The orders say very clearly That exercise is allowed. A powerpoint presentation from a VDH bureaucrat who probably finished in the bottoms 10% of their Grad school class isn’t law. Hotel pools are open and packed at multiple Virginia Beach hotels today. Great Wolf Lodge is opening June 15th!! Political leadership at the State and County level have endorsed and participated in outdoor protests with 10s of thousands of people packed closely together, and yet with a straight face they say allowing a family to jump into a chlorinated outdoor pool for 30 minutes with drastic restrictions will cause mass death. VDH has lost their credibility. Again, if you want to keep you and your family locked away until a Vaccine, which could take 3-5 years to be developed if it is developed at all so be it. |
