Totally because you've read the book. If you could just watch the series for the series, you'd have a different take. The writer and director took the book as a base and totally HBO'd it: so the product is more intense in every sense--dangerously high bridges, water crashing on rocks, houses on water's edge, intense soundtrack, and that includes cliff and gun. And of course most characters are a hyped-up version of themselves.

Can we say there's no comparison and then just stop comparing?
Reese and Nicole optioned a great book and hired a great writer and director for the TV adaptation. HBO is the perfect platform. Can't we all just enjoy it?
Oh, and great episiode last night. I'm really looking forward to the finale.
But Perry's expression when Celestes breezily, beautifully, comes down the stairs and walks out the door to "have dinner with Jane" while brooding over his Kombucha?

Yes - I loved how she just didn't even pause to let him "approve" her going. I loved how she did that. It showed her regaining her power back, I hope.

I wanted to see Celeste reach out a to friend to tell about the abuse -- as the therapist recommended. Unless I missed this part?

Though Celeste says she's offended by the therapist, she keeps going back to her. I think what Perry said about killing her made something snap.

I think Celeste is deeply embarrassed and ashamed, but knows the therapist is exactly right.

When he was saying his wife didn't feel any passion for him, I was waiting for her to tell him it was because of the beard.

...and because he likes to tell his wife to avoid the basement bathroom! that was a clear turn on for her last week.

I thought that was hilarious. She was wistful that they didn't have wild, spontaneous sex like Celeste/Perry, and then he comes up and tells her not to go in the bathroom. Shades of my own husband.

I love the opening credits. It's as great as the True Blood one.

Realizing more with each episode how excellent the music is on this show.

Does it drive anyone else crazy that Ed (and others) calls Maddie "Made-LINE" and Renata calls her Made-LYNN?

I read the book and Im loving the show so far! I read it awhile ago so I cant remember all of the details to compare but I think they are doing an excellent job.

I cant believe it ends next week!

She does it on purpose.

I saw they are going to come out with a soundtrack which I will happily purchase. I love the songs they picked.

It's a Renata-as-bitch move. She chooses a unique name for her snowflake Amabella and then purposely mispronounces Madeline's name every single time. LD was asked about it in an interview.

Are bangs going to come back in as people try to
imitate Celeste's lovely hair style?

Ha no way. That's a nice touch.

I think it's the opposite - Renata is the only one who calls her Made-LINE.

I liked the scene where Jane and Renata seem to put things behind them. I was glad it wasn't Renata who started that petition! How awful.

I still wonder how on earth they can tie everything up with only one more episode. I wish it would at least be a two-hour episode!!

OK here's my theory (I have not read the book): ALL the women (or almost all of them) are involved in killing Perry, sort of like in Murder on the Orient Express. Celeste b/c of the abuse. Jane b/c she recognizes him as the rapist. Madeline because she finds out about the abuse and the rape and wants to avenge her friends. Renata because she finds out the twins (or one of them) is abusing Amabella b/c of what he sees at home. I can't think of why Bonnie would be involved, so maybe not her. Anyway this would be why the victim was described as having "multiple injuries."

If so I hope Celeste uses her mad lawyer skillz to get them all acquitted.
