Little to develop, but they still interact with him as a coach and person. He loves to take credit for the girls team and their state wins, but if he is so amazing at developing swimmers vs being handed a talented bunch then how come the boys team hasn't done as well? |
This. Great coaches develop the kids. |
I think the point is more high school coaches don't develop the kids at all. Support them, keep track of them, and make advantageous lineups. |
Yorktown swim is no cut. There are 100 percent kids on that team that are not top tier club swimmers or not club swimmers at all who show up to practice regularly and could use some coaching. |
HS coaches provide some coaching and mentoring and definitely help kids who aren’t club swimmers. But the kids who are making it to Class 6 states and helping schools bring home titles are the kids who swim year round club and only practice with the HS team once a week. For these kids their club coaches have a much greater impact on their swimming. |
Who are you explaining this to? We know. There are many kids on the team who don’t fit this description who he does not bother to coach while focusing on and basking in the achievements of the ones who were good before they got to him and don’t even practice with the team. |
We are proud to partner with Hydra Aquatics, a USA Swimming club founded and led by Tuckahoe’s Aquatics Director, Coach Torey Ortmayer. Hydra offers year-round training and instruction for swimmers of all levels—from beginners learning water safety to advanced athletes preparing for college swimming. This partnership replaces our traditional Winter Swim and Group Lesson offerings with structured, team-based programming that keeps kids engaged, progressing, and connected to the Tuckahoe community. Members receive priority registration and discounted fees for Hydra programming held at Tuckahoe. To learn more about Tuckahoe Aquatics, explore the links below. For questions, contact Aquatics Director Torey Ortmayer at Aquatics@tuckahoe.net. |
So much for “Hydra Aquatics is and will remain as its own separate entity that is unaffiliated with Tuckahoe Recreation Club, a Tuckahoe-aligned PVS swim club will make the Club potentially more attractive to current and prospective members.” Is it even recognized by USA swimming yet? It’s not on the USA swimming site. |
Maybe it is (website people haven’t done the update) maybe it isn’t. I’m jealous that T (or anyone else) gets to start a new business with financial mitigates by others footing the bill! |
oop. Meant to say “financial risk mitigated by…” in any event, well done. |
USA Swimming approval happened today per an email that just went out. |
No one cares. No one is going. |
I wonder how the kids who swim for him at York and Tuckahoe are going to be treated this summer if they don’t move with him to Hydra… seems like it could be a tricky spot for some families… |
I guess this will be a true test of character... |
I can’t imagine many kids fall into that bin. If you swim for him at tuckahoe and at York you obviously like him and are going to move with him. If you just swim with him at tuckahoe and a part of another club team it’s understandable why you wouldn’t move. If you just swim for him at York you won’t have further interactions. |
