School Opening Predictions for Tuesday?

Anonymous
My parents had a backup plan for snow closures and delays back in the 90's when I was a kid. I don't see how you can live in this area and not have a plan for your own kids. It's not a surprise that we get some delays and closures each year. Schools are not childcare people.

Those teachers should hire babysitters like the rest of us have to do.

Perhaps that’s easier for you to afford.

And seriously… you’ve never taken off for childcare? Why should teachers be held to a higher standard than other professionals?

It's not easy for me to afford, either. But we can't all take off at the last-minute.

Then you need a back-up childcare plan for when childcare in schools are closed. This is not an MCPS issue, this is a you issue. It is not MCPS' responsibility to provide childcare for your child so you can go to work. If you picked a childcare provider that follows the MCPS schedule, again that is on you. You need to look for a daycare that operates independently, so that you can go to work.

I am happy you are not the decision maker at MCPS and that your opinion is immaterial.

Lol MCPS is apparently not responsible for anything! Nobody can criticize their decisions, parents should just stfu! Cool.

And Howard just closed. So some staff might be out. Some will use their back up daycare options so they can go to Montgomery County.

Might they change to a closed day this late ?

It’s real risk (I’m the PP that works in a hospital and have seen quite a few people hospitalized with broken bones in the last week).

Just so you know, it's cold today so will still be icy even with the delay. Plase be careful or you will fall!

No. Hope your lessons plan are done, you're working today.

Schools are child care and they've functioned as such since the first public schools were established.

Also keep in mind that MCPS/Taylor prevented before/after care programs from opening on-time.

Seriously, the problem is getting the buses started with the cold and a 3 day weekend.

It seems to me like the PP DOES have a backup plan- the point was that teachers need a backup plan too in case the county they live in does not have the same delay/closure as the county they work in. Everyone should have a backup plan, even teachers. I don't think that's unreasonable.

As to the point you should have childcare that operates "independently", what do you even mean by that? Most providers either follow MCPS, MCPS admin offices, or the Feds (or sometimes a hybrid, lol), they're not sitting there making their own independent closure decisions. Even if they are, there's no guaruntee they'll make deicions more favorable to your schedule. I'd rather know who they are following, but YMMV.

Does MCPS purchase buses designed for southern states and that is why they have trouble starting them on colder days? I have never hear of this problem before moving here.
