No thats cause and effect. The absurd positions are those who are not willing to vote on resolutions. It's easy to say no to voting on it when you know it will continue regardless of pay. And if they are going to do that then they need to provide hardship pay on top of it for those that are expected to work while not getting paid. These are not a |
No it's not absurd. The whole point is to make sure shutdowns don't happen. Shut it ALL down and it would be very quick. YOUR position is absurd. |
|
I too believe it all needs to be shut down. If it is a life or death situation, then they can keep working such as some military and some secret service. TSA? Nope, they need to be shut down. Social Security checks should not go out.
I've seen who is essential and who isn't and it's absurd. I'd argue that not one position in my agency is essential. We regulate and yes, it's vital, but no one will die if we shut down. Congressmen need to bring a sleeping bag because I don't think they should be allowed out until they have come to a compromise. |
| Completely agree that those forced to work without paycheck certainty should get bonus pay. |

Can we please stop with the "working without pay" nonsense? No government worker is "working without pay." The pay is delayed. (Contractors, of course don't get paid, and I really feel sorry for them.) What is really happening is that all government workers get paid late, and many get paid for not working. You all are coming at this form the point of view of the workers, which is understandable. But from the perspective of a person not involved, it's far more important to minimize disruption to the rest of the country, and economy, than it is to take draconian measures to try to prevent shutdowns. And it's unfortunate that federal employees' pay is *delayed* - but that's far better, for the country as a whole, than shutting down entirely. |
Lock them in a room with no potty breaks till they reach a deal. |
It is working without pay indefinitely. The eventual pay date is never known, and it has stretched over multiple pay periods. The backpay itself has to be funded, Congress can change its mind. It’s all absolutely absurd. Stop it. |
Huh? The shutdown is the disruption. I don't understand why you think there should be a "shutdown' in which nothing shuts down. At minimum, Congress should not be able to adjourn until it's resolved, and individual members should be required to be present just like emergency workers are. |
In 2018-2019 TSA workers did their jobs for 5 weeks until they could get paid, they are not highly paid feds and people started opening food banks in the TSA break rooms for them. As civil servants our entire mission is to the benefit of the country, but in this case you are saying that they should bare the entire cost of Washington politics so that the public could continue flying. I agree it's not the public's fault, but it's definitely not the typical TSA agent's fault either so why do they have to feel the pain of this? |
Not all feds are 14s and 15s with high salaries, as was shown during the long ridiculous extended shutdown, so not all people are in a financial position to be able to wait for "delayed" pay. |
Exactly this. If you want your TSA checks, then get on your congressman's ass about passing a budget bill. |
I think minimizing the disruption to the rest of the country is a bad goal. We have dysfunctional politics in Washington because the average voter doesn't really understand how the federal government effects their lives or why they should vote for politicians who want government to be effective, they are all looking for "fighters". Let people see what it's like when fighting is more important than providing continued government - no airports, no new passports, no border crossing, no SSA checks. These are all things that your federal government provides and if you choose a bunch of political bozos who can't agree to keep them going then you don't get them. |
Yes. All air travel should grind to a halt if Congress can't figure out how to fund the TSA and ATC. Maybe if that happened they'd get their heads out of their rear |
