Chastised for not tipping on a to go order

For those of you saying OP should have tipped, do you tip at:

McD’s?
Subway?
Dunkin Donuts?

At my local coffee place if you want to add milk they send you to a table with carafes. And they want a tip? They’ve got to be kidding.

I am not a PP but yes I tip on everything. I can afford to tip and figure these service workers need the money more than I do.

Do you tip at McDonald's too?

Tipping culture was started by big business as a way to not fairly compensate their employees. Now they are manipulating you to do it for them and you feel bad not doing it. Meanwhile, they enjoy record profits.

The outrage IS justified. If be passed if this happened to me. I don't tip at starbucks either.

I tip at Starbucks only once in a while. Always my regular one. Usually if it is a holiday or something like that.

Looks like that rocks your boat. You should keep doing that.

It's a lot of work to put groceries on shelves. Do you tip at the grocery store?

I always tip for take-out but would also be upset if someone demanded a tip like that.

No, stop making tipping culture go crazy.

People can tip whoever and whatever they want but I am not doing it. Someone demanding tip in such a rude way would definitely make me complaint about them and may be not pay for part of my order for this misbehavior. There was a time when students or upcoming young professionals used to be in this industry and tipping was supposed to be supportive, but now everyone including middle aged workers are in this industry and feel entitled for tipping which I find wrong.

I don't understand why items are getting expensive on their own and then additional burden of tip on customer too? I don't see OP did anything wrong here and kudos to him for standing up his ground.

But not the same effort to serve your food and attend on you. No tip.

I tip less now that things are more expensive.

15% at random restaurants, more at our usual spot where we know the staff.

No tip on takeout or fast casual counter service.

OP is right and I hope the employee is reprimanded or fired.
