With the exception of football and T&F, most serious athletes are playing for club.

That's not true on the boys side for any sport. No clue about girls.

It’s true for both groups. Nobody gets recruited from high school except for football and T&F.

"Serious athletes" play HS basketball, soccer (even break the MLS rules to play on their hs teams!), volleyball, lacrosse, swim, etc etc etc.

Not sure what you are smoking or what your point is.

+1 And, few will play D1. Some will, but most will not. Club or high school alumni.

That said, sports is great for the kids. It is not all about being recruited. If that is the goal, prepare for disappointment.

Most of us want our kids in sports to set them up with a lifetime of healthy habits, no different than trying to get your kids in honors or AAP classes with a peer group focused on good habits. It is a shame that the class sizes are so large here that most will have to go outside their school in order to play on a team and develop those habits. Many families won't be willing or able to put in the extra time and effort that travel or club sports require. Rec sports with once a week practice and kids who barely know how to play, or goof off all practice because there are no repercussions on playing time, just don't cut it.

Skyview will have sports but just not the first year. It’s temporary. The problem will be solved by year 2. You don’t disrupt thousand of kids and move them from familiar schools for freaking sports. Those who live closest to Skyview should go there period. Quit using the sports excuse.

They will have intramural I thought? It is still something and they will have it year 2.

There is incomprehensible. Kids shouldn't be forced to attend a school without VHSL sports or told their only option is to play on another school's team, which presents significant logistical challenges.

That's why they came up with an opt-in model, so that kids willing to forego the same sports-related opportunities as students at other schools could still attend Skyview. But the challenge in getting the desired number of kids to opt in to attend Skyview suggests they would have been better served by deferring the school's opening for another year (or even two if necessary) when Skyview had appropriate athletic facilities and could accommodate enough students to offer VHSL sports.

Did Robyn Lady just say none of the three scenarios would come back?

She said she wouldn't support a scenario that turns walkers into bus riders. She also said that she spoke to Dr. Reid specifically about Lees Corner.

That’s great!

Since when was Lees Corner in Dranesville? Lady doesn't do shit for people in her own district but she sure keeps her fingers dipped in anything relating to Chantilly.

Any feedback from today's meeting? I went Tuesday, and there was an uproar. What was today like?

She worked in student services at Chantilly for years. The only schools she cares about are Herndon (she lives there) and Chantilly (she worked there). Coates stayed overcrowded longer than necessary because she wasn't paying enough attention.

Hughes can take care of Fox Mill instead.

Hughes is full. That's why Fox Mill to Hughes was not proposed even in Scenario 1.

I think the mix of the Scenarios 2 and 3 would be the best:

Fox Mill - Carson - Skyview
Crossfield - Franklin - Oakton
Oak Hill - Carson - Skyview

how many herndon kids are at hughes for AAP right now? soon after these boundaries go into effect they will be back to herndon for AAP

Very similar to Tuesday, but even more people. I think a lot more schools were represented, including Bull Run. Lees Corner had a huge presence and lots of parents speaking for them.

They said they would bus the kids back to their base school for sports. What more do you want? If you’re that close to Skyview you should have to go. Your kid can get bussed back to their base for one year for sports as a freshman. By year 2 it’s resolved. JFC, RIO. You don’t disrupt an entire county of kids so you can remain at Oakton, from which you are the furthest. Hope Reid and the board see though you.

I was on the zoom again. Once again, it looked like most of the groups agreed scenario 2 was the lesser of the 3 evils.

I don’t know why they are messing with the boundaries to begin with.

Navy mommies are outdoing the Rios tonight. God forbid their first grader gets moved to Chantilly from Oakton. Half the distance and a fairly equal school. Where is the humanity??? Welp!

If they’re going to add kids from Floris, no way would it make sense to do Hughes-South Lakes. This puts more of the boundary closer to Skyview.

So in Scenario 2, Oak Hill ES stays at Franklin and Crossfield moves to Franklin? And parts of Dogwood and Hunters Woods gets rezoned to Carson to make up for that? So Hughes capacity gets reduced to 89%. I just don't get that part.
