‼️ Coverup? Did FCPS only withdraw Hayfield from playoffs because the Fairfax County Times exposed the text messages that FCPS had known about for six days?

This is a very good point: did @fcpsnews engage in a coverup about the texts implicating a recruiting scandal, allowing the slaughter and elimination of Edison High School from playoffs by Hayfield?

The timeline of a coverup?

Tuesday, 11/19 — @FCPSSupt Michelle Reid gets the text messages at 7 PM meeting with coaches. No mention of texts to the public.

Wednesday, 11/20—Reid announces countywide investigation, not zeroing in on Hayfield. No mention of texts.

Thursday, 11/21—9 AM @SravanGNews and I break news @FairfaxTimes that Monty Fritts asked for leave of absence.

9 PM FCPS spokeswoman confirms Fritts asked for leave. No mention of texts.

9 PM Hayfield crushes Edison 75-7, eliminating them from playoffs. No mention of texts.

Saturday, 11/23–@KarlFrisch school board to issue joint letter supporting Reid. No mention of texts.

Sunday, 11/24–About 7 PM, Reid issues lengthy statement on her plans for Tom Horn to lead investigation. No mention of texts.

About 8 PM—Sravan and I report exclusively details from Fritts text messages. Peoples’ heads explode reading them.

Monday, 11/25, about 10:38 AM—FCPS admits to Fairfax County Times the texts but says they are being verified.

Monday, 11/25, about 6:30 PM—Hayfield withdraws from playoffs, citing texts revealed “last week.”

I respect how Asra and Sravan waited for Reid to do the right thing before finally dropping the hammer one hour after it was clear a coverup was underway.

Agreed.

I disagree with Nomani on countless issues but she is a good journalist. I am guessing that like any good journalist she gave let Reid know about the article shortly in advance of it dropping to try and get a comment and just give a heads up in general (as to avoid it being "gotcha" journalism) giving Reid a runway to try and appear as if she was doing the right thing. The right thing would have been for Reid to actually do something about this back in August IMO.

At this point gotcha journalism should be on the table. Reid was negligent in handling this from the beginning, showed malicious intent with her misinformation email, and doesn't deserve grace to save her image.

I would like to the General Counsel of FCpS resign in protest over this. His/her professional reputation is at stake if they stay.

I gotta think this could open FCPS to a lot of legal liability that will make the cost of the outside investigation look like pocket change. Any group or person harmed by this shenanigans probably has a claim to consider pursuing including boosters who lost revenue, student athletes, etc. FCPS better have some deep pockets. Hopefully they free up some money by eliminating some personnel starting with the supe on down to the Hayfield admin team so the taxpayers aren’t in the hook.

Will any boosters be implicated? Did they offer Overton money to come to Hayfield?

To the person who said that Herndon recruited: Please elaborate

He’s a shill for the school board. Doesn’t want to give up that cushy job - it’s primarily just telling the school board to mask their true DEI intentions so they don’t get sued.

Team with only the race card to play strikes again. The fact this is the only card that continues to be played speaks volumes.

I mean I hear you, but no one on the Hayfield side (I am including Reid and all but three members of the Board as being on the Hayfield side) has acted like adults throughout any of this. Even last night Overton was acting like he/his team are the victims in a manner befitting a petulant child. It is nice that at least the two people (Nomani and Gannavarapu) who helped ensure this scandal didn't go away, are staying above the fray.

Do you want the names of the kids? I think I gave plenty of information already.

The players dedicated countless hours to improving their skills and representing their team, only to have their opportunity for success taken away due to decisions beyond their control. These young athletes simply followed the instructions given by the adults in charge, trusting in their leadership. It’s crucial that the consequences for this situation target the adults who caused the problems, not the players who are now unfairly bearing the brunt of the fallout.

This clears the way for Madison to the championship and the money spent by Hayfield parents goes down the drain because FCPS’ new collusion with the VHSL. The parents ought to sue FCPS now.

This! These Hayfield football players that were impacted by this should sue as well as the FCPS employees that were transferred.

Truly clueless and laughable!
Please record the lawyers reaction when presented with this, it will go viral.
Not PP here. There are two types of Hayfield players:pre-Overton and post-Overton. Pre-Overton has a legit beef, and rumors of bullying. Post-Overton participated in the fraud, so nothing for them.

How was the bullying handled? Was it reported? If it was reported, was there an investigation? I know plenty don’t report the incidents.

Yes, give names.

Well I’m not the first one to mention it, but I did mention two situations of current students.

A supermajority black team of transfer cheaters protected by a black coach protected by a black principal protect by a black assistant superintendent. #Coward

Everyone knows the black employees of FCPS protect each other unprofessionally.

Sure, the racism allegation is unfounded.

No logic. It’s just a last ditch effort that everyone sees through.
