So-- I just watched that video and I guess I am in the minority because I thought they sucked.

The first touch was horrible. They could barely complete passes. It looked like slow motion. For Christ sake, I've seen U9s play better than that.

Agree, poor quality of play, are we sure these kids are DA? Had to stop after 4 minutes, the play was bad, not 1 passing sequence of 3 or more passes. Mis-hit passes and don't try to say into space because they were way off. No individual 1v1 quality, just relying on speed. Shots from midfield. Goalkicks? are you serious on a 3v3? dribble it out! best coaching point, "argh, come on guys!"

Everyone loves to build themselves as top this top that, premier, academy, what ever. The product is being completely diluted.

The dribbling is really poor too. Nobody on that field can properly shield the ball, head-up, arms out, etc. It's just wide-open for the taking.

Ha! I also had to turn it off. The majority of parents are not driving their 9-12 year olds all over the DMV and chasing elite DA blah, blah, blah. The training is questionable, the driving and traffic is ridiculous. This area is a hot bed of soccer. Great training can be found right in the backyard. It is more beneficial to spend $ and time on 1 on 1 training at this age.

The best players in the area aren't showing up for this stuff. I do see so many talented players--most often they aren't even on the high teams in their own Clubs. It's not that they aren't out there. The system gets clogged with this crap in the early years and the crap continues to get pushed up through the pipes...leaving no room for anyone new.

Further--what is with all of this invite-only bullshit in the younger years? The invites and pre-selection are by fellow buddy coaches in the inner circle. This is a large part why we have such crap. A kid doesn't stand a fair shot from the beginning. This is the exact opposite of how it works in South America and Europe where the scouts go to the small towns, etc. A poor kid can make it big. Here--the kid won't even make it onto the tryout field. If he does make it there-- he'll be on the outer perimeter 'no eyes' field. You also have to have somebody evaluating that can actually spot soccer talent. The factors most of these American coaches select for our diametrically opposite to other places in the World.

It looks like the kids in that video are deliberately passing to the other side. They can't be that bad by U12. Maybe they are color-blind? I can't fathom how this is a National Championship final (wtf?!). In the year 2017-- this is the best we have? I don't buy it for a minute.

I agree with many of your points here, but you seem like you are mostly interested in ranting about the general state of soccer in the US. I don't think anyone in this discussion has said they think that 3 v. 3 video represents the best u12 soccer around. How many kids are even interested in 3 v 3 tournaments? I'm sure it's a tiny fraction of the player pool. I imagine that most of those kids are there because their friends are doing it and they thought it would be fun.

The only reason the video was posted was because someone on here erroneously stated that there are few restrictions keeping U12 DA players from playing in other leagues and tournaments. Then they got so invested in proving that they were right that they posted that link and a bunch of others to identify particular DA players involved in other competitions. That's a pretty crappy thing to do, and making harsh comments about these kids who didn't ask for this kind of publicity also is not fair in my opinion.

With respect to your comments about all the fabulous players around here stuck on lower level teams, I don't get why they don't just switch clubs or do ODP for recognition? All the big clubs around here want players who will help them win, they'll gladly bump homegrowns for better talent, and most offer generous scholarships.

just for comparison let's watch a national championship of U-12s in Spain (fc Barcelona vs real Madrid):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0cO9NK5IFo

think we are close?

Note--the physicality, speed of play, the passion, etc. The kid wasn't carded for the behind the collar shirt taken. We'd have parents running onto the field crying if somebody did that to their kid. A header like that into the goal---our kids get a penalty for heading.

It's the way the rest of the World plays.

This is an extremely silly comparison. Our actual youth national teams often do well against top European teams at the younger ages. What relevance does the level of he Spanish teams have to that at some random 3 v 3 tournament?

BS.

Look at the speed and skill. We may have a few of these players randomly scattered across the 50 United States. We do not have a single team or group that plays at this caliber. If we routinely had this caliber--the USMNT would not have the lowly #28 rank

Yes, it's a lot harder to achieve in a country the size of the US, where the talent is so dispersed, isn't it? And that factor also makes the notion that we'll just have talent scouts scouring every town for talent like they do in Europe really laughable too. Not to mention that we are starting decades after Spain. You are welcome to think the US has made no progress, but no one who is using that 3 v 3 video to prove any point about US soccer ought to be calling out anyone else for "BS".

Let's take a moment to analyze this typical defeatist US men's soccer attitude that I was hearing back in the 70s. You think 47 years is enough time to make some progress? How long are we going to keep crying we started the sport later as if that's the reason for the shit product here. Iceland is teeny, tiny with a very small player pool and produces higher quality.

Let's take the US WOMEN. We can argue the same thing---the US women are ahead because they were playing soccer prior to other women around the World. That is a true fact. German, England, Latin and South America did not want women playing Futbol. What is happening in the very short amount of time these other women have been playing---they are catching up and surpassing us. Look at the Olympics.

The 3V3 was used for 3 pages to say how elite we were and look at these DA players. Once somebody called horseshit--it's suddenly not fair. It doesn't work that way. Don't put something up for public consumption if you are not willing to take criticism.

It is pretty despicable that adults are posting individual children's information and critiquing them online. Even for this forum, that is some low shit.

Do you even bother to read the discussion before ranting? As mentioned above the ONLY reason that 3 v. 3 video was posted was to prove that some kids participate in non-DA activities despite DA rules that seem to prohibit it. No one claimed it was an example of great soccer. No one claimed the kids in it were elite. The only people who talked about the level of play were you and some other poster who wanted to express how awful you thought it was.

I questioned this back when somebody was posting personal pics of players' dinner in Vegas and on the strip and their profiles (at age 11!).

I think somebody's desire to brag got the best of them. Not sure if it was a coach or a parent.

So it's better to "out" kids with a video? This is where it all went wrong. Nobody should have done that to make a stupid point.

^^ so now DA is not elite. I'm thoroughly confused. All this time everyone has been saying DA is the cream. Now--it's: "no, no, no, nobody is saying DA has elite players". Which one is it? It can't be both at the same time.

I think this thread has proven it all means shit. More $$$$.

No, it's not better. As I said above, I think it was a crappy thing for that poster to do. But I'm not sure how you defend saying negative things about the kids given that you should have understood the context. Presumably you would have if you'd bothered to read the discussion.
