Political Discussion
You are moving the goal posts. And no, speech that is designed to provoke reactions and targeting certain groups and oppress others is not the same as wearing revealing clothes. Additionally, in the public square, those who seek to lead and inspire should use words that do just that. He was making society more dangerous not just for himself but others as well. This is not blaming the victim directly, but he did contribute to the dangerous political environment that we are in right now. This is not black and white and shouldn't be gotcha. It is nuance, but it is important nuance. |
With limited resources and money, I almost see America getting increasingly more tribal and trying to protect their own group. |
It sounds like what you are really trying to do is argue that individualism has made American society selfish and violent, and that a collectivist or socialist approach would be healthier. The problem is you are not actually making that argument in a logical way. Calling Americans “gross, self absorbed bullies” or “gluttonous selfish pigs” is just a sweeping condemnation, not an explanation. It overgeneralizes and substitutes moral outrage for reasoning. If your point is that individualism leads to social isolation and violence while collectivism could address those issues, then you would need to show that connection with evidence and clear reasoning. Right now what you have is venting, which may express your frustration but it does not establish a cause-and-effect link or make a persuasive case for collectivism. |

It’s happening, been happening for decades now. These murderers weren’t all born mentally ill. Mental illness can sometimes be brought on by stress and trauma, both of which most kids face growing up today, particularly with social media. Some people are more prone to mental illness. Maybe we need to be kinder to people, really. We need to reach out to people who seem to need a friend, kids and adults. Let’s follow the golden rule. |
This is so outdated. the right/billionares/oligarchs control news platforms, social media platforms and the intelligence community. Are you serious with this? |
And they did not all become mentally ill. I don't know what being kinder to people (that phrasing) is conveying. |
+1 Have you seen CNN over the past few days? |
So what party should we go to now? Bernie's? |
We know that individualism leads to isolation and violence, is this not obvious? Maybe a happy medium would suffice, why does everything have to be so extreme? We need to start with young children, schools and parents need to be proactive in facilitating relationships and connections for kids. We need to teach proper social skills and etiquette at young ages continuing into adulthood. We seem to be missing the ‘empathy’ or compassion gene. Kids are growing up on social media now, missing critical emotional developmental stages. This is disastrous. |
And LWNJs don't do EXACTLY the same thing?? Please, spare us.

The mental illness spectrum as relates to criminality is complex, and it is polluted by our Puritan roots and longstanding preference for vengeance over mercy which prevents us to this day from acknowledging fully the neuroscience and psychiatry that explains most of the aberrant behavior we prosecute and incarcerate. Sociopaths and psychopaths (of a kind, or not, depending on one's opinion) are fully aware of right and wrong - they just don't care, they want what they want. They are born with this disposition, this brain peculiarity that has genetic markers - and depending on the settings in which they emotionally and socially develop, they can become truly dangerous people or they can become CEOs and other high achieving humans - or like the guy who wrote the book about psychopathy in neuroscience, James Fallon. Certain mental illnesses like bipolar, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, post partum depression can manifest into states of psychosis wherein the sufferer truly doesn't know right from wrong or is incapable of resisting the compulsion to act in ways that violate the law. Back in the 60s/70s we were more accepting of this reality and gave hospital sentences and/or shorter carceral sentences but we have since backlashed wherein most even seriously mentally ill people who were probably psychotic at the time of the criminal acts are getting sent away for a very long time or life, not to hospitals but to prisons. Add to the mix the personality disorders - incredibly difficult to treat, if you can even get the sufferer to acknowledge there's a problem. Capable in some cases of profound criminality, even on a massive scale. In the criminal justice world we call the narcissist who would make his family's life miserable a malignant narcissist (not a DSM term, a criminal one) because they victimize people on a far larger scale. Think Dirty John. Or think most of the strong man dictators you've read about or can see with your own eyes in the news every day from the worst places on the world stage. Typically these personality disorders are formed from traumatic childhood events or exposures to long term abuse. Do we mitigate our punishments knowing at some level the perpetrator is a victim of a brain defect over which they had no control? To the extent that preserving life is a species instinct at the individual level, we think murder must always mean mental illness. But if the brain is formed differently, what is murder to you might look like self preservation - or the pursuit of happiness - to someone else. A 22 year old's brain is not fully cooked. It is a very vulnerable age for the development of serious mental illness. Add to the mix the truly abhorrent toxic stew of the cancer social media and you have a recipe for disaster, as we keep seeing over and over and over and we are doing nothing of any real substance to save these obviously deranged young men who have been poisoned by what we allow Big Tech to expose them to. Yeah yeah yeah free speech blah blah blah - I sure hope they don't pursue the death penalty, it would be an exceedingly un-Christian thing to do and considering the victim and the location of the crime, the default should be mercy and an opportunity for redemption by spending natural life in prison. |
Uhhhh…Granny said that the whole family was MAGA, which would support the “liberal” narrative. Can you people not read? |
Go where you please but just always remember these important facts: Our political parties are PRIVATE entities run by people that care way more about fund raising and pleasing their wealthy financiers than they care about you and the needs of everyday Americans. Our political parties have well crafted agendas to divide the American people to the extent of hate for the other side. Hate brings in more money to fight the evil other side and hate for the evil other side leads to blind loyalty. Sometimes this manufactured hate leads to murder as we've seen recently but 99% of the time it just leads to more funds raised and more sheep closing their eyes and voting as they are told. Go where you please but don't fall for the hate traps. Don't be a sheep. |
He said he had gotten more political. Not more liberal. |
