This is a combination of wrong and misleading. One bullet had the inscription "Hey Fascists! Catch!" followed by the up arrow symbol, the right arrow symbol, and three down arrows. You cannot divorce the words from the arrows. The arrows are a key code used Helldivers 2 to arm a large bomb. In the game, the player is a member of a militaristic regime (i.e. fascist government) who is battling aliens that the players call fascists. The phrase is a taunt of an enemy who is about get bombed with a large munition. The game is satirical and the irony in this is that the player is the fascist.

In context, "Hey fascist" does not indicate that Robinson is right-wing. It also does not indicate that he is left-wing. It simply means that he is deeply into Internet meme and gamer cultures.

He was a mentally ill person who got caught up in the toxic political climate that many of us have been caught up in recently. Sane people who fall into the hate the other "side" trap post stupid stuff online or say things we wish we could take back at Thanksgiving. Manufactured hate can drive mentally ill people to commit murder.

You aren't agreeing with the PP you are making a completely different point. He may or may not be mentally ill. No one in politics told him to kill anyone.

He's a human who shot another human being in cold blood. He's mentally ill. If you disagree with this, you need to crawl back under your rock to stop embarrassing yourself.

I think at least half of our society is now mentally ill to some extent. How about we try to figure out how to help these individuals? We’ve become such a nasty society, people are so mean to one another, more than ever it seems. No wonder everyone is mentally ill, a person can only handle so much in life. We need to support one another. Why are we so damn mean?

Social Media and loneliness. People are getting detached from humanity.

People aren't just getting detached from humanity - they are seeing those with whom they disagree as non-human, unworthy of listening to, unworthy of respect, and in extreme cases unworthy of living.

For those of you who think that Charlie Kirk "lived by the sword, died by the sword" or some other BS like that, I challenge you to live up to what Voltaire allegedly said: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

But you won't.

The 2 concepts are not mutually exclusive.

But they are, and you just proved my point. There is a line and your failure to condemn the act is cowardly.

I condemn the killing.

Also when you get people worked up, it could stand to reason that you become a target.

There.

So blame the victim. Got it. Would you say the same thing about a woman who wore revealing clothing? Or someone wearing jewelry in public? Or some woman just sitting on a train reading her phone?

Condemning the killing is where you should have stopped.

Exactly this. Inflammatory rhetoric gets people angry and can make you a target. Most normal people learn this in kindergarten and elementary school, when some kid says something mean and gets punched in the nose as a result, but apparently somehow MAGAs are really really really slow learners and still don't understand this.

Thank you for your detailed post. This makes sense.

So, basically, what was written on that casing doesn’t indicate one way or another what his political leanings are.

Curious as to why no one is listening to his father, who made it quite clear that he has swung politically to the left?

No one had to assume what is father is saying is true

So instead there are over 150 pages of speculation that are to be believed? His father knew him better than anyone on this forum. His father's words were backed up by others. It's not rocket science here.

Why are you so emotionally invested in him being a leftist? You really need this to be true, why?

I'm simply wondering why all the speculation when his father has told what was going on lately in the family. Why the need to speculate?

Because the father is only one witness of many potential witnesses, and two, he may be lying.

His son confessed to him and he helped talk him into turning himself in. Why lie? There were other witnesses at the dinner table, one stating that the shooter hated Charlie and was generally, full of hate.

I don't want to live in a collectivist society

Then without strict gun control, we are all at risk of being murdered by a lonely, deranged, misfit lunatic, all because people like you felt it was okay to shun people from society. There is usually a common theme with these shooters other than being white males, they were not seamlessly fitting into society and rather than trying to to understand these people or even befriend them, modern day Americans shun them, force them to become outcasts, because they’re different than the norm. These people weren’t all born mentally ill, we created these people, modern day American society creates them. We’re pros at intentionally isolating people and then acting shocked when they finally implode.

Ah yes, those poor fragile little white men. It's entirely too much to expect them to adapt to the same circumstances faced by everyone else. Society just isn't bending far enough around to protect their feelings.

Ate you a bot? Because not all murderers are white. It has nothing to do with race.

Poor widdle men and their hurt feeeeelings.

Man up. Grow a pair, or a spine, or at least something. NONE of these triggered murdering men have it as bad as the worst-off 10% of American society, or even 25%. People are out there working three jobs, or separated from their families, or dealing with chronic pain, ALL THE TIME.

Why aren't the really hurt or sick people out there murdering? Because they don't have their heads up their own a--es. I really don't give much of a flying nut about "why" and "how" and "oooohhh, the poor young men" anymore. Come on. Whiners with guns who wouldn't know an actually hard day if it smacked them in the face.

This is not an isolated incident. This is a widespread disease that has infected the minds of millions, and it was done so intentionally. This is by design.

We are dealing with people who have been literally brainwashed by everything they consume, to hate us and everything we stand for.

We are living in an Orwellian dystopia.

While they chant in unison, Trump is a fascist.

While you chant in unison we will not be replaced!

Sorry- chanting is for the pu$$y hat crew.

Gotta give it to leftists, they are great chanters. They will take weeks and weeks of work off to march about, chanting various slogans.

Why, during the work week, in the middle of the day, leftists gather to engage in all manner of marching and chanting and singing.

While the evil republicans are at work supporting billionaires, democrats are supporting democracy by marching and chanting. Carrying all manner of signs and large papier mache heads of fascists.

Imagine the hours of work democrats spend paiper mache-ing fascist heads?

Stunning! And brave.

Yes, that's what people have been trying to tell you the difference is. That is exactly what the extreme left does. Why are you glorifying violence?

It's basically the difference in bullying between high school boys and girls. Both are bad but one style is more physical than the other. One style wants you to kill yourself while the other wants to kill you themselves. One style tries to exert physical control while the other tries to exert social control.

It's all toxic and it's all a circular response to each other's most extreme elements exacerbated by social media and algorithms to lock us in bubbles of groupthink while feeding us ragebait about the other.

There's nothing wrong with protest and free speech and political activism. There is something wrong with violence. BOTHSIDES are not toxic. The violent one who hates empathy is the one that's toxic.

You really can't make this stuff up.

Kirk once said, "I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

That's an awful thing to say. And even worse to add into our political discourse.

lol, physician heal thyself. Empathy is a two way street.

You're doing the same thing that the people you're arguing with are doing. Try to practice a little empathy yourself and you might realize how hard it is to accept the reality that we are all to blame.

None of what I said takes anything away from what this kid rotted by the right wing internet did or excuses anything Trump has been doing to our country.

Where did you see that the shooter was right wing?

The constant call for ‘links’ is not in good faith, because it shifts the burden of the conversation onto the other person while letting you avoid offering any position of your own. Communication scholars often describe this tactic as a form of bad-faith framing or what’s popularly called sealioning—asking for endless citations not out of genuine curiosity but as a way to derail, exhaust, or control the exchange. It keeps the other person locked in a defensive posture rather than opening space for honest engagement.

If you had provided even one link, I could see your point. But you have not provided even a single link.

What you just wrote actually proves my point. You are not engaging with what I said, you are reducing the entire discussion to whether I will jump through hoops to provide links. Communication research on online debate shows exactly this dynamic: people who demand sources in this way are rarely interested in evaluating them, they use the request itself as a way to control the exchange and keep the other person on the defensive. That is why I said the demand is not in good faith. A conversation is about exchanging reasoning and perspectives, not setting up a passfail test where you pretend you cannot respond until a link is dropped.

My position is "I don't know" and I'm not going to be convinced by an anonymous forum troll's rantings.

Yes, you just proved the point: nothing presented here will convince you, even links, due to concept bolded above.

Haha, what citations have you provided? Zero.

You want everyone to believe your anonymous opinion. Hard pass.

You are still proving my point. The only move you are making is to demand links and then act as if nothing else matters. That is not real discussion. A constant call for citations is not about evidence, it is about setting up hoops for the other person to jump through so you can avoid engaging with the substance of what was said. That is why it is not a good faith tactic.

That's what people say when they can't provide "the science"

How about you guys stop your inane, petty side argument and let's talk about something else. Like what a remarkable and devastating shot made by the shooter. One bullet. 200 yards. Kind of boggles the mind. Kirk was even under a covering partially. And I find it strange that no one noticed. Sad to say that when I go to events in DC I can't help but look around at the tops of buildings. Messed up, but true.

This has been covered in this thread and you are wrong.

A 16 year-old girl could make that shot. In fact, she did: first shot:

DP.

Human nature is a very real thing. In any demographic you can say something nasty and most people will either choose to ignore it, grit their their teeth, give some retort, and so on. But there's also going to be a small percentage with someone who might knock your block off. That's just a statistical reality. And when you go around saying nasty things to tens of millions of people that small percentage starts to translate into a lot of people.

Most people condemn the killing. But you need to be aware of the reality that if you piss some people off, they will come after you. "Condemn the killing and that's it" ignores that reality. I suggest you come to grips with it. The better answer should be that we condemn the killing AND dial down the divisive rhetoric. If you're unwilling to do that then you can deal with the statistics on your own.

That's a good start, but it's not just the U.S. The same behavior can be found all over the world.

The rest of the world doesn’t have quite the volume and diversity we have here along with gun worship and a lack of resources. We’ve become an all you can eat buffet where everyone is only out for themselves. Stepping over others as long as our needs and wants are met. Are we actually surprised that people are mentally broken? And I am talking ALL people.

DP. You are refusing to understand. Typical MAGA.

So you call people MAGA if they disagree. No wonder you blame the victim.

You did not know this about DCUM?

Anyone who agrees with anyone over anything around here is instantly labeled “MAGA!”
