It’s a good week to have kept DLing a kindergartener. That is for damn sure.

Y’all need to get the people in this video FIRED.

I have a hard time faulting the administrator in the heat of the moment. She would have been on the other side of bullies who clearly lacked any empathy whatsoever and were dressed like they were about to conduct a raid in Fallujah. What the administrator did after the fact matters a lot, though. Was it reported? Under the abuse policy, this was reportable, and failure to report is a serious offense.

I don't understand why police don't de-escalate a situation especially with there is not really a crime or just a minor infraction.

There are three women from the school in the video. The one that is in the paisley shirt that goes to look for him; a woman in a poncho; and another woman that is showing video in her phone of what happened in the classroom (maybe a para?). The woman in the poncho and the woman showing the video as wildly inapprppriate in the way they are talking about the child and his mom in front of the child. Empathy chip clearly malfunctioning.
I have a SN child who attempted to abscond once and no one treated him or me that way. The admin who called as great and he is now in training for a principal slot at one of the MCPS ES school. He should teach a class to these ladies.

The video is horrifying. I can't imagine I would do to an adult who treated my 5 year old that way.

I agree. MCPS should create more CES magnets and exclusively place these in schools like ESS while reserving seats for ESS parents.

Personnel actions, including discipline, are private. LEOBR.

The chief can't fire people because of a collective bargaining provision.

Support Hans Riemer's bill to revamp discipline.

But the Mom was wrong too! She agreed with the cops!!

Yeah she was horrible too. She never once said "enough--this child is 5 years old and I will handle it!"

I wonder if the Mom played along to get attention/sue MCPS. As a parent I would have taken my child and walked away. The police brought back the child, mom arrived. There was no reason for that unprofessional discussion. Mom was right she is allow to spank but not beat. This child has significant needs and if they are eloping either something is wrong at school or SN and needs more support or a different placement. She should be suing for a better placement. School officials should have stopped the discussion or asked them to take it outside as its not appropriate.

Mom is scared of spanking b/c CPS. This video is insane.

Totally insane. It was so dehumanizing for that child. But why is the family filing a lawsuit when the mom was just as big of a creep as the cops?

I am sure that will be the county's defense. The behavior of the police or the school administrator did not apparently shock the conscience of the mother, who actually complained that she could not beat the kid despite encouragement from the cops.

Why doesn't restorative justice work in this case? MCPS has been singing the perfect tune about restorative justice and how it is the best. Tell us how many restorative justice practices/session have occurred for this students. If restorative justice practice was not performed for this kid, why not? If restorative justice practice was performed for this kid, why it does not work.

MCPS has been signaling:
"We work together to foster the physical, social, psychological, and academic well-being of students, staff, and families ..."

MCPS even has a Restorative Justice Schools Menu of Services.

We need more answers!

The cop does not forcefully do it. I can see the motion is slow and questions are being ask all along. Everyone needs to watch the whole thing.

That is the whole point of restoration justices. All sit in a circle and talk and role-play and ask questions to each other. What is wrong? T

Did you see the part where the female cop is just screaming in his face? That’s restorative justice??? It makes the Lou Gosset Jr drill seargant in An Officer and a Gentleman look like Bird Bird in comparison. These two people have no idea how to talk to children, especially a child who has already gone off the emotional rails.

Also, why are these police officers sitting around school for an hour lecturing this mother on how to raise her kid? Is that a good use of their time, when they have no training in child development or parenting skills? Is that what we are paying them for? It’s like they decided they’d rather sit around and act superior to this mom for an hour than do their job as LEO. They both act like they are going to win the Nobel prize in child rearing.

She said she was fine with spanking, not beating and took the kids cloth off to prove she wasn't harming him. The entire thing was weird.

Agree, once mom arrived, situation resolved, they leave. They don't discuss the child's need. Mom is equally to blame but the cops were terrible.
