MC police pick up ESS 5 year old; harass & assault him

I hope the family wins. That is a terrible way to treat anyone not to mention a child. Police officers should always be focused on de-escalation.

And I get it's hard to deal with behavior issues but it doesn't take a genius to immediately this is not what you do.

I can’t watch the video. What is the administrator doing?

She is there the whole time and doesn't do or say anything when the police call the child names and scream at him. I think at one point she just leaves him in the the office with them. I am only 20 minutes in.

I can't believe you are more angry with the administrator who did not abuse or yell at him than the officers that did. Was she right in doing nothing? No. Is it because they are Black that you can't acknowledge that what they did was worse?

I mean I explained pretty clearly why I found the MCPS administrator's behavior more disturbing. It sounds like you disagree, and you're assuming it's because of their race. Assume away.

It's pretty sad to suggest a 5 year old does not deserve better treatment from police and school staff because of his mother.

The phrase “de-escalation” should not even be relevant when it comes to dealing with a five year old. The obvious alternative for these cops that should be too stupid and emotionally disturbed to be LEOs was to just do nothing. Drop the kid off with MCPS and then just leave, file a report if that’s required and then go home to their families. We cannot forget that it’s a five year old. No action is a viable alternative. Just let them cry.

I have 2 kids at ESS. I could barely watch 5 minutes. I am so sickened and horrified.

The cop used the handcuff on 1 hand as a teaching tool. the cop ask the kid if he wants to be like that (handcuffed 1 hand). The cop ask the kid what can be done. The cop does not forcefully do it. I can see the motion is slow and questions are being ask all along. Everyone needs to watch the whole thing.

That is the whole point of restoration justices. All sit in a circle and talk and role-play and ask questions to each other. What is wrong? T

you know who to fix this? lets put a magnet in ESS so more black and brown kids can benefit! With the CES, every kids will get better!

You are wrong. This was not restorative justice.

I don’t know how I can send my kid to an MCPS elementary school after watching this. THEY DID NOT PROTECT THIS CHILD.

I didn't interpret pp's statement the way you did. The mom should have been more pprotectiveof her child but maybe she was afraid of what the cops would do.

Did you see the part where the female cop is just screaming in his face? That’s restorative justice??? It makes the Lou Gosset Jr drill seargant in An Officer and a Gentleman look like Bird Bird in comparison. These two people have no idea how to talk to children, especially a child who has already gone off the emotional rails.
