What does everyone think about SYC

I am not going to quibble about players being pulled up or down. If it's allowed it's allowed, whether it seems fair to me or not. Besides every team who can does it. Not sure why people are fixated about SYC on this issue when other clubs do it all the time. But I really don't understand how a team can add players mid-tournament, which is what clearly happened. My kid's team has played SYC many times and we happened to see an early game. They had several new players in the later games (and it is reflected in the outcomes).

SYC has a lot of strong players. Nothing bad to say about the kids. I have a kid in a different age group and I think that SYC team is excellent as well and seems very well-trained and coached. But I need to second that the behavior of parents this weekend was strange and obnoxious. I would never let me kids try out for SYC after this weekend.

There was a very fishy result in the bottom bracket for this age group on the boys side. DS is on the Bridge team. They lost 2-1 to the SYC team after leading 1-0 and there was nothing between the teams--SYC got a late goal to win it from the great individual play of #40. Then my DS team lost 1-0 to a team that SYC beat 8-0. There was no way there was that much of a gulf between any of those teams after watching them. Then Sunday SYC struggled to beat the Arlington team 2-1 and son's team beat them 3-0 -- it was the only match of the weekend that wasn't that competitive. The 8-0 stands out as totally suspect.

Surprised you guys are just figuring this stuff out.
SYC coaches are known to do funny stuff with rosters, especially in league play.

Ok keyboard warrior. Nothing like some dip sh$t posting anonymous, incendiary allegations about an entire club. So sad.

I think previous poster was talking about SYC coaches, aka, old LMVSC coaches. They were known for doing "funny stuff" with rosters for sure. Just read up old threads on LMVSC.

If it's known, what year and what tournament? What coach?

How did the 05 boys breakout into the SYC MLS Next team and the Virginia Union ECNL team?

Did any of the McLean players get MLS offers?
And what does the make up of the ECNL team look like? Did McLean keep most of the ECNL slots?

SYC is a boys club, not a girls club

Boys: MLS Next, ECNL pathway
Girls: CCL, maybe 2 girls max in ECNL pathway

We decided to leave

Is your goal to be on Ecnl level which is why you left or bc they didn’t give enough focus to the girls side. How was the coach? What club did you leave to?

It’s up to everything if DD to be ECNL level. But she wasn’t even given the opportunity. Girls stop training during the holidays, boys don’t. Girls have limited access to rolling goals but the boys always have goals. DD’s coach cares, but they’re not given the resources and we rarely ever saw any no day other than coach

SYC league participation:
Boys: MLS Next, ECNL partnership, CCL, NCSL
Girls: CCL, NCSL

SYC-based VA Union Coaches (Boys): PM (03/04), EM (06, 07), ST (09, 08)
SYC-based VA Union Coaches (Girls): JO (08)

After seeing tryouts and talking with friends, it's no longer a suspicion that the girls program means nothing to SYC. Nearly the entirety of the girls coaching staff is no longer coaching their teams. I have yet to hear a replacement technical director for the girls program, not the the SYC technical director ever made an appearance. The ECNL program has ONE of our coaches in ONE age group, the boys have THREE coaches in FIVE age groups. To my understanding, fewer than 11 of our girls were given an ECNL offer across all the age groups (which is why I didn't list ECNL in the league participation). Our girls' FIRST team plays in CCL, our boys' THIRD team plays in CCL--CCL of course becoming more and more irrelevant as a recruiting platform with Beach FC, Arlington, Loudoun, Fredericksburg, Skyline, Legacy having all left this year.

Not all boys, just top teams on the boys side. You know, the ones coached by the TD and Program Directors. They seem to take all the fields and suck up the Club's Fees.

I heard a concerning story recently from my DS. A few players had left the team and I read some the messages of one of them in their group chat. One of the boys leaving was approached by our coach and essentially berated for deciding to change clubs. The poor kid just felt it was a better place for him at his new team, but it was completely overblown by coach (calling him a quitter and such).

This seems to be to be completely inappropriate even at the professional level, but absolutely disgusting on the youth level.

Okay parents of girls players, if you're dissatisfied, where are you going to go? Other clubs are not much better.

McLean (better), Arlington (better), VDA (better), Alexandria (better), BRYC (better).

The bitterness and pettiness of these posts is f’ing amazing. Do you truly have nothing better to do with your life? JFC, find a hobby that doesn’t involve trashing some youth organization. If you don’t like the club, stay away.
