FWIW dog lover here...i also judge small dog owners that dress their dogs up like toys. but to clarify, i don't think they're treating their dogs like people...they are treating them like dolls! of course in the winter some dogs may need a sweater, but if its august and your dog is wearing a ballerina skirt you're a bit off.

as for letting your dog be fat and not running him...same goes for kids. they usually don't treat dogs like that because they're dogs, but because that's their lifestyle.

plus, different dog breeds are very different, bred for separate puposes and have varying temperments. Pit bull breeds should be illegal and make this whole thing a moot point. Personally I own a collie, and no chance it is going to fight in a dogfight - just not bred for it.

i agree that pit bulls should be illegal. they terrify me and i love dogs. they are just bred to be mean and i don't think even lovingly raised that they can be trusted (and i've seen many instances where bad things have happened). however, eating an animal is a lot different than torturing an animal. those dogs were subjected to torture for YEARS to make them mean fighters. that is just wrong. even an animal in a slaughter house isn't subject to that kind of treatment.

haha. my advice is for you to read up on slaughterhouses. a pit bull enjoys the fighting, I doubt the cows and pigs enjoy their last few hours on Earth.

I have no problem with your eating habits, sir. Nor do I have an obsession with dogs. Nor do I think that everyone must love animals or have a pet.

But the cruelty expressed in the quoted post -- that someone doesn't think it any big deal that someone would invest in an enterprise in which pit bulls are kept in brutal conditions, conditioned to be as violent as possible, and then slaughtered -- is so offensive to me that I wouldn't mind shooting the person. Michael Vick is a sick fuck and anyone who thinks what he did is no big deal is no better than human refuse. Or make that pig refuse. Or a school snob.

Such ignorance about pit bulls. As usual . . . the training of these animals to fight/kill is abuse. These are some of the most abused animals out there. These dogs don't come out of mama's womb chomping at the bit to fight/kill. It is a learned behavior. I've been around enough of them to know this definitively. (No, I don't have one but my mother does). It's fine to disagree. But, you'd be wrong and reacting solely on emotion and media stories.

I think pit bulls have been so bred toward violence that most of them, and the breed as a whole, must have some innate aggression. I would not own one as a pet nor would I be very comfortable playing with one. Maybe they should be illegal, I don't know.

In the meantime, however -- and in fact, even in the future if they are ever illegal -- it's not okay to torture them for human entertainment. It's not okay. Anyone who thinks that it is okay to torture a living creature for pleasure is sick.

You are exactly right. This whole ban pit bull thing is so ridiculously small minded. My daughter was bit in the face yesterday by a Golden Retriever. The nurse in the ER said it must've been an accident when I told her it was a Golden Retriever. How this could be an accident is a mystery to me but since it wasn't a pit bull it must've been one.

Even if you're right about all that, it is wrong to torture and kill pit bulls for human entertainment and pleasure. It doesn't matter that they are more dangerous than Jack Russells or golden retrievers. It's still torture and it's still cruelty. It's abominable.

I actually don't really approve of hunting and would never feel comfortable doing it myself, but yes, dogfighting is much, much worse. Anyone who says differently is either stupid or sociopathic, or maybe both.
