Rs are terminally out of touch with normal people

I find it astounding that the exact same people who try to reason with logic of "guns don't kill" are out there at Target screaming "t-shirts with rainbows will make kids gay"

How does that "it can't do anything on its own" logic break for you?

No one is saying that. Gay and trans are totally different things. This isn't about gay people.

Okaayyyyy... if you say so. So instead, you're saying you think an inanimate object, a rainbow t shirt will somehow make kids trans?

No. You're missing the point on several levels. Go read about the concerns. If you can't articulate a position in a way that people who believe that position can agree with, you don't really understand the position. [/quote
You don’t like trans women using the bathroom at the same time as you or being in a women’s prison with you. We know.

Which still.wouldnt explain the furor over the collection of trans themed children's clothes, created by a person who self identifies as a Satanist, as the premier display at the front of Target stores. You'll note that bathrooms and prisons do not feature in any aspect of this controversy. You really don't understand the stance, and you don't want to, because you aren't capable of analyzing perspectives contrary to your own without feeling threatened. Many such cases.

FWIW, I have shopped at Target all while participating in this thread. In fact, one day, I responded to this thread, went shopping at Target, got my nails done, and then went BACK to Target. My main issue is that it's ludicrous to pretend this boycott isn't real or isn't effective. The "out of touch" assertion is total projection. Lots and lots of people dislike the woke stuff.

Normal people aren’t watching Target’s stock price and rubbing their hands over it dropping. They’re wondering if they can afford eye drops at Target that their doctor prescribed. You all keep on telling on yourselves.

This is inconsistent with DCUMs stance that Republicans are all poor. You need to pick a stance and stick with it.

No one thinks Republicans are all poor and even if I did that has nothing to do with what I posted.

You may not believe that, but the common theme on this board is that Republicans are all poor and view Trump as an aspirational wealthy figure, which is the reason for his appeal. As most Ds read this, I'm sure they envision me as a pot bellied construction worker whose finest academic achievement was reading most of To Kill A Mockingbird in 8th grade, and that I push aside the overgrown bangs of my mullet to read this forum while shaking my fist in the air and yelling about gay people. And I would argue *that* perception is out of touch.

nah, probably gave up your career when you had kids and now you’re online all day, kind of bored and ready for a fight. you feel both superior to most people - and chalk it up to good choices and good values - but also feel like a big old victim. you don’t go to therapy so all the contradictions fuel your need to feel certain about some things. so certain.

Nope! Wrong on most points. And I don't feel remotely like a victim, btw-- I'm continually surprised by the goodness of humanity. I'd like to offer that Republicans make up roughly half the population, so if you're going to stereotype, you may want to at least look at averages and work out from there.

If your kid came out as trans as an adult, you would probably end up being estranged after telling them to just live as their AGAB and go to conversion therapy. I suspect this is an issue very few people here have first hand experience with in terms of their own children and yet they are debating other people’s lives and bodily autonomy. You try to bring it back to kids because, while you want to ban gender transition for adults, you know other people’s trans kids are the low hanging fruit.

Ok, so what I've learned in this thread is that the leftist position is that the boycott is ineffective because normal people are rushing out to buy all the controversial merchandise.

Now, as Target has lost $14B in market cap-- 5B more than when this thread started-- I'm seeing that mantra repeated less often. Now, if we notice that Target has lost $14B, then we are weird, because normal people don't follow financial markets because they are too poor.

Neither of these seem persuasive. Lots of normal people have some level of exposure to the news, and will notice that the leftist insistence that the boycott isn't working seems unlikely to be true. It also seems that the thesis of this thread, that Rs are terminally out of touch and that the "ineffective" boycott is proof of this, is not really holding up well as this drags out and the stock has not yet leveled out. Given all these facts, the OPs argument is invalid.

Target has been having financial issues for years.

No, not at all. I would fully accept my trans kid.

I haven't been participating in the Target boycott. I just think it's beyond ludicrous to pretend that people concerned about this year's pride collection-- and not previous years ones-- are the anti-gay fringe. These are normal people who have legitimate concerns with the current approach to trans issues involving children. They aren't evil, they aren't anti-gay, and most of them aren't even anti-trans. The irony of people who see Nazis behind every corner assuming that everyone else has an issue with diverse views...

PP here to whom you’re ascribing these views that I do not share. Unfortunately there are lots of people who view Trump as an “aspirational wealthy figure,” and many of them are not at all poor. I thought we covered this with the truck and boat parades.

My main issue is that it's ludicrous to pretend this boycott isn't real or isn't effective. The "out of touch" assertion is total projection. Lots and lots of people dislike the woke stuff.

A March 2023 Ipsos/USA Today poll found 56% of Americans viewing “woke” as a positive term, with 39% viewing it as a negative.

An NBC News poll found that 22% of Americans didn’t even know what “woke” meant enough to have an opinion on it.

People don’t care about this sh|t that you all are so very exercised about. As I said early in the thread, go watch a focus group or talk to an average voter - NOT someone in a political forum - in a diner. They don’t care. That’s part of why your “red wave” didn’t materialize, because you’re obsessed with these niche issues and don’t have any solutions to the problems real Americans have.

I didn’t start this thread but that’s what I think it’s about. And then you all keep coming in here and keep stamping your feet about trans people and rainbows on shirts.

There you go again. Republicans are not remotely half the population. 28% of U.S. adults identify as Republicans.

Oh oh sure, *I'm* missing the point. Tell that to your right wing buddies in the Target stores trashing displays and recording their tantrums over rainbows to post to tiktok. No, I'm not missing the point at all. You have a stupid position, as evidenced above, but you're trying to defend and protect yourself from your fellow right wing troglodytes by pretending there's something else that we don't understand.

You're a clown.

Let's be frank. Their "concern" is that they think a shirt with a rainbow on it will somehow turn their kid trans. It's completely irrational.
