Why are people more sympathetic to Lindsay Clancy than Andrea Yates? (Child death mentioned)

I thought Gofundme did not allow fundraisers for legal defense of criminal acts? The Gofundme specifically states that Pat needs it for "legal help." I guess a divorce attorney?

I remember when the teen who (lethally) punched the man at the Frederick MD fair a few years ago was arrested, his family had a Gofundme that was taken down.

The gofundme is in such poor taste - it’s one of the worst I’ve seen and that’s saying something. The “goal” is completely obscene. $100-200k for funerals and leave from work would have been fine. 5-10x of that is a disgusting money grab. The man has no shame.

I’m inclined to agree with pp that lack of new charges means she is not even guaranteed to live, or will be in a vegetative state.

It’s all so tragic, now she’s probably going to die or be severely brain injured. We will never be able to determine the cause of all of this. Most likely PPD and anxiety, or medication side effects, but we don’t really know. As harsh as this sounds, moms with PPD/PPP must be institutionalized, it’s the only way to prevent this from happening again. It’s too unpredictable.

This - there is something sick and twisted about this go fund me. I remember someone put up a go fund me for an Arlington Mom who got hit by a car and the surviving husband had it taken down. And he had living children to raise.

I agree but the husband is probably so distraught and not thinking clearly himself. He probably feels psychotic himself. Someone else, a family member or friend may be managing the Gofundme. He’s probably not even aware of it, at least it should be the last thing on his mind at this time. And I doubt he even wrote that statement about his wife and children.

Yes, someone else is managing it, but I'm sure Pat knows about it? There is even an update from a few days ago, that presumably was published with Pat's consen.

I hope you are right. If not it is a serious red flag.

Yes, suggests he knows about it. I don't think the fundraising goal was originally that high but people kept donating--I read that moms and moms groups are driving that. At least three funerals, medical bills for all, legal bills for her (if she survives), psychiatric are for him plus his inability to work. People are giving of their own free will. I'm not interested in donating to the already-gargantuan fund, but I understand why others want to. No evidence she was a psychopath, far from it given her line of work. Everyone thinks she was suffering, sought intensive treatment but experienced a psychotic break anyway. This was a tragedy, plain and simple.

^^and I doubt he'll be living the high life with the money. Will probably use what he needs then fund a nonprofit for PPP or some such in honor of his lost family.

I don’t think you can donate a GFM, can you? Unless you say that’s why you are collecting? I think you have to spend it on what you say or it’s fraud. I can’t collect for “medical bills” and pay off my mortgage instead.

It is against go fund me terms of service to raise funds to pay for legal defense of a violent crime so it might get taken down and money refunded anyway.

I am at a loss after reading all these comments (yes up to page 31 - a full week and two days since the family's tragedy occurred). There's so much hate, blame, misunderstanding of PP (if indeed the mother was diagnosed with it). My two cents: Deep in most people's hearts is the greatest love...of their children, and grandchildren. Men and women don't want to kill their greatest love - but they do shift when experiencing mental illness. It is beyond their control and sadly the control of others, even those in the field of mental illness. It is a tragedy of humankind. I feel great compassion for this family. And with that great compassion I am willing to suspend my judgment, my opinions, my postering. May we all learn from this horrific event. And may Lindsay Clancy and her husband find peace in knowing that while she was healthy with sound mind and body, she loved her children and they loved her.

What are we supposed to learn exactly? That “mental health experts” have no clue what they are doing WRT this? That any depressed new mom could become a baby murderer? What do you propose we do with that knowledge?

What do you mean by "PP?" Post Partum? I thought all women who have recently given birth were considered "post Partum"--no "diagnosis" necessary?

Wondering if they will close it now that their (obscene) goal has been reach. Doubt it...

This tells me that ANY new mother who admits having dark thoughts postpartum needs to immediately be placed in a mental hospital indefinitely. And that’s only the ones who will admit to these thoughts. Many women will mask symptoms as much as possible to avoid being taken away from her children. The mental health experts aren’t mind readers. Women and their families need to recognize this and take action immediately. We need to clearly identify when a new mother lacks capacity to make sound decisions. This is easier said than done though.
