NP. You know that psychosis can develop as a feature of just "standard" depression, right? Even if this doesn't fit the definition of PPP, psychosis can develop as a feature of severe depression at any time. About 1/4 of people hospitalized for depression have psychotic features during that time. Most of them are not in the postpartum period. Sometimes news stories are driven by what sells, sometimes by what people can understand, sometimes by the biases and limitations of the people writing them. The reality of Clancy's medical situation is not something we are ever likely to be fully privy to, and that's just going to be between her and her medical care providers. As frustrating as it is, that's the way it should be. To the extent it plays a role in legal culpability, the court case would bring some of this to light for those involved, but the details still might not all be public. |
| We can speculate about Lindsay Clancy’s condition all we want, we will never know. I have a feeling she won’t be recovering from this. |
Agreed. I find it highly suspect there has been no update or new charges for the murder of the baby. I bet she is not expected to recover. |
There are so many possibilities when it comes to her providers. It could be they were negligent. It could be that insurance denied and they discharges - which likely would be negligent. It could be that insurance denied, the doctors recommended that she remain hospitalized and appeal and that she and her family declined to follow the recommendation. It could be that she left on her own or signed herself out AMA. It could be that the doctors did not have enough to file for a 302. So much hasn’t come out yet. But I would bet on a lawsuit against the doctor and hospital. |

Has it even been confirmed she had psychosis?
I haven't seen anything released about her medical condition officially - just lots of rumours and sixth hand information. |
Well until either side presents it as an element of the murders, it’s still her private medical info, right? You can’t just give out people’s medical info without a public disclosure (like in a court filing) or if her family releases it. |
Yes but the prosecutor that keeps posting claims with 100% certainty that she had postpartum psychosis and deserves empathy and exoneration. Agree we do not know whether she had psychosis and may never know. |
That poster went on a rampage last night and then disappeared when challenged to provide facts for their claims. |
Things move a lot slower than you want. And she's still in the hospital, there's no rush at all. |
Cool. Well, hopefully there are smarter people in charge that won’t want to waste the public’s tax dollars for the next ~50 years at $60k per year she spends in prison. Great return on that investment, compared to say, addressing underlying foundational issues like healthcare access and quality. |

Her Gofundme is pretty close to $1 million now ($970k.)
I thought Gofundme did not allow fundraisers for legal defense of criminal acts? The Gofundme specifically states that Pat needs it for "legal help." I guess a divorce attorney? I remember when the teen who (lethally) punched the man at the Frederick MD fair a few years ago was arrested, his family had a Gofundme that was taken down. |
Lindsay was in intensive outpatient therapy, she must have masked her symptoms and had a brief moment of insanity that evening and became homicidal/suicidal. The only way to prevent something like this happening would be to immediately institutionalize any woman who shows any signs of PPD/PPP. They would need to be institutionalized indefinitely. Are her healthcare providers to blame? I don’t know, if she hid her true feelings, there’s no way they would have been able to predict this. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink, she had access to the best care, however if she wasn’t willing to admit her true feelings no amount of therapy or medication is going to help. |
Do you mean physically recover (like from her suicide attempt) or mentally (as in she has permanently snapped)? |
I’ve read that she is vented, most likely has a TBI. Probably doesn’t have a good prognosis, brain injuries are not good. The families could be disagreeing on what to do, who knows if she even had a living will. One family member may want to keep her on the vent another may want to let her die. She possibly wouldn’t survive off the vent. Just speculating here. |
The gofundme is in such poor taste - it’s one of the worst I’ve seen and that’s saying something. The “goal” is completely obscene. $100-200k for funerals and leave from work would have been fine. 5-10x of that is a disgusting money grab. The man has no shame. I’m inclined to agree with pp that lack of new charges means she is not even guaranteed to live, or will be in a vegetative state. |
