What are you talking about? |
NP with no skin in the game who hasn’t thought much about this. I’ve read every page and I have to admit no one has provided any evidence that diet and exercise is an effective weight loss strategy. Your smokingest guns are “I know people who have lost weight” and “Look at Jennifer Hudson”
I’m more inclined to believe the “diet and exercise isn’t helping us be less fat” as they seem to have at least some science on their side…and it is true that public health messaging has been pushing diet and exercise for like 40 years and obesity is just getting worse. It makes sense to move away from that and try something else. |
Tons of medications are, in fact, miraculous. |
I'm not sure what or whose post you're referring to. Of course it can be very complicated for many people. I think you're taking general comments about obesity and applying it to individuals. That is where things go off the rails. Why are Americans more obese than ever? |
Many of us here have literally lost weight through diet and exercise. Yes, it’s anecdotal, but we’ve experienced it so it’s frustrating to see people claim it doesn’t work (and I admit it obviously doesn’t work for everyone). |
Didn't you learn that all bodies are not the same? Learn about any health issues contributing to weight gain? Learn about hypertonia and hypotonia? Thyroid conditions? Etc. etc. |
So far diet pills seem to be more or less a bust. Remember when they were pushing Phen Fen? Maybe this one is different? Do we know if there are any long term risks with this drug? |
I mean I have too, but only 20 pounds and I’ve never been obese. Seems like a totally different ball game. And it doesn’t really matter what you or I have done when on a population level everyone is getting fatter. There’s no denying that, so diet and exercise doesn’t work. If it did we wouldn’t be getting fatter every year. |
I’m down 23 lbs on Ozempic. Not only have I lost weight but I have absolutely no desire to drink. Wine tastes terrible. My BP is down and I may start going off some of my cardiac meds. I still eat healthy, always did. My workouts keep getting better. And no wine hangover.
Not only am I healthier, I am also happier. I was very fortunate to get it. I hope it is approved for weight loss and is more accessible to more people. |
There may be some but for those of us who actually need them, I am already dealing with weight related issues. High cholesterol. Knee pain. Shortness of breath. Being fat makes normal things like tying shoes hard. So exercise is basically something that becomes more limited. So yes, there are risks. But I am already dealing with side effects of just being fat. |
+1 Very logical. |
That is fantastic! Congratulations!! |
Logic Fail |
Wow. |
Born fat or Family history of a mysterious yet medically undiagnosable reason for not being able to lose weight. |
