Will Ozempic and other drugs like it eliminate obesity?

I have lost about 12 pounds on Saxenda. However, I had some rough GI side effects and took a two week break. I’m starting at lowest dose again tomorrow hoping for another good month of loss. I’ve maintained or lost just a little during the break, which is great considering the holidays.

Excuse me but Victoza came out in 2010. They marketed it for weight loss as a side effect in the commercials.
Pharma is sneaky. Ozempic is a cousin of Victoza. Read about the cancer risks and all kind of other negatives. If you still want to call me an idiot, go for it and gladly take a drug pharma is using to pump up their stock prices.

This is nothing new people.

Are you saying that these drugs are unsafe and the risk of using them outweighs the risks of obesity?

Can you take it long term so you don’t regain?

Few people are willing to put in the effort.

You are incompetent.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. Based on what I observed with my obese spouse, some people experience hunger and/or cravings differently. Before starting on one of the drugs, my spouse basically couldn't stop chomping, and the diet wasn't particularly unhealthy - they just ate a lot. You can't say to someone like that "just stop eating". Now, with the drug, they are able to shut their mouth in between regular normal sized meals, and the weight started going down quickly.

BTW, we live in an urban area and don't own a car, so there is plenty of walking without any special effort.

I’ve seen it hundreds of times. It won’t last. Sorry.

No, you haven't. You're not an MD or a pharmacology researcher. Your professional background is 100% irrelevant to the question being asked. Sorry.

I think it may messes your metabolism up too. So you will regain it.

I realize you feel threatened for your livelihood but the empirical evidence suggests these drugs are highly effective.

NP

Agreed. I have to say I am somewhat entertained by the panicked posts from the personal trainers and MLM weight loss shake sellers of DCUM, who are freaking out that their grift has been discovered.

Honestly the idiocy on this thread is next-level.

What’s genuinely crazy are the idiots who cling to their antidepressants but simultaneously shame people for using Ozempic. Not too many brain cells to rub together, I guess.

Good gracious you are ignorant. Victoza is liraglutide. Still sold, still on the market. It’s also used globally, including in the EU (which I mention because the EU is one of the most conservative pharma markets out there).

https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/medicines/human/EPAR/victoza

Liraglutide carries a thyroid cancer warning, like semiglutide. It has never been proven to cause cancer in humans — the studies were done on rats and mice.

I am so tired of ignorant idiots spouting off on DCUM.

I’m just tired of the deeply ignorant pseudoscience (or overtly anti-science) around weight management and obesity that is posted regularly on DCUM. Stop posting nonsense, and people won’t call you an ignorant idiot.

How is it incompetent to state common knowledge? What the pp said is true, except maybe these drugs will be more helpful than previous ones.
