Might be worth noting that people in their 20’s are among the least vaccinated overall. (In Virginia, less than 50% of 18-34 year olds are fully vaccinated.) And among those 20-something women who have been vaccinated, I’d guess that a fair amount of them are on some sort of hormonal contraceptive. |
Because people don’t believe women. It’s a problem, especially in the medical field. Even women don’t believe other women. |
I’m not the OP, but please stop discounting these discussions as silly, or worse, unhinged. Who is “most of us”? How could you possibly know most women had no change if you won’t even allow the possibility of discussing it? For those of us who have experienced notable changes, it is helpful to know there are others. |
You are incredibly weird. It isn’t unhinged to say “hey my body experienced this, did yours?” Not a single person has expressed regret at getting the vaccine or made any outlandish claims to their overall health after getting it. |
| My 16 year old DD has been bleeding almost non-stop since getting her second shot. While she has always had short cycles and heavy and prolonged periods, this is obviously concerning. Her ped won't see her until she sees a hematologist, which hopefully will be next week. I'm not freakimg out, but it is concerning. My first period after my J&J lasted almost 20 days, but I'm 53, so don't think much about my weird cycles--they're all over the place. I posted about my DD on a different thread about this topic and it was deleted, so I assume this one will be too, but I am not a troll. This is happening. |
I believe you! I bled for 49 days straight after my first shot and my most recent period lasted 11 days. (Previously, periods were all reliably 4 days long.) I’m not freaking out about it anymore, either, but it was a horrendous experience initially. I hope things resolve for your DD soon! |
I’m so sorry for your DD and you (as a mom of course you worry). I’m so disheartened your post was deleted. Women being marginalized for symptoms is not new. I’ve experienced 4 cycles of painful ovulation since the vaccine - lay me out in bed painful. Never had that before in my life. My friend also bled for 6 weeks straight after hers. I hope it resolves for your DD very soon. And I hope there are some in the medical community who are studying this (my OB seemed to indicate this was the case) so we can learn more. |
Op here and no, it’s not silly or unhinged to ask a question. Could it be a coincidence, sure? Could it be perimenopause, it could be. Could this all be happening naturally at the same time or could it be triggered by the vaccine? I don’t know, I have no clue! But asking questions does it make me unhinged or silly. And the fact that other women have noticed the same issue it is good to know. I am not anti-vaccination, I was in fact very eager to get my own. And I will be getting the booster as soon as it comes out. If your cycles are not affected, great! Just because it does not happen to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to others. As for me, I’m paying extra attention to my cycles. |

Theres a study underway about this, and info on it was posted in previous threads.

| If anything, the Pfizer vaccine improved my cycle. I was having 10-day periods in a 21-day cycle since getting a Mirena IUD two years ago. The past few months, I've had 8-day periods in a 27-day cycle. That's much closer to my pre-Mirena cycle, giving me hope that some day I'll return to simple 4-day periods in sync with the full moon. Correlation equals causation, right? |

Op here- some reading this may not believe me, a woman, but maybe you’ll believe NPR.

50 at the time of my first shot. I am perimenopausal, I assume, but since I got my first shot, my cycles have been
31 days 25 days 28 days 24 day I'm up to 30 days this cycle. Expecting it soon. Never had a cycle shorter than 26 days before, and since having my two kids in my 30s I haven't had a cycle over 29 days. Before kids the cycle length was 30-32 days each month. Could be a coincidence. Could be my age. But seems wonkier to me. Certainly I'd take the shots again, and will absolutely get a 3rd when eligible. |
It is wonkier and it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge that not to diminish the shot but as a valid side effect of the shot. The women in this thread trying to gaslight women in their 30s with disrupted cycles only after that shot that they are perimenopausal are losers. It’s an honest discussion that doesn’t mean the vaccines still aren’t safe and worthwhile. |
