Well, they finally admitted he worked for the CIA and not State.
FBI seeks help in identifying more sexual assault victims of former CIA agent https://wtop.com/dc/2021/10/fbi-seeks-help-identifying-sex-assault-victims-of-former-cia-employee/ Federal investigators say a former CIA worker who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing women may have more victims, and are asking them to come forward before his sentencing next year. Forty-five-year-old Brian Jeffrey Raymond pleaded guilty in July to two counts of sexual abuse in which women were incapable of giving consent, and one count of transporting obscene material, after FBI and State Department recovered images from his electronic devices showing two dozen women, nude and unconscious taken between 2006 and 2020. ... Raymond is scheduled to be sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 7, 2022, following a pre-sentencing evidentiary hearing beginning Jan. 31, 2022. |
The Embassy Marine Guards, alone, could fill a prison |
+1. I do think that a certain type of man, already prone to misogyny and the belief that he "deserves" certain attention from women, tend to behave progressively more horrifically in overseas locations that offer the opportunity. By opportunity, I mean throngs of much poorer women whose society encourages them to try to get a Western male husband because the locals believe all Westerners they see are super wealthy. Those societies tend to already have issues with women's rights, so the misogyny is something the women have grown up seeing and hearing from family and community. We were in several Eastern European countries for many years, and while the majority of men aren't like this....many of them are. The women they targeted were not women with authority or access to support, but very poor, usually much younger women who often tolerated worse treatment anyway. The worst case we saw was a middle aged man who boasted a lot about his five different 18-20 year old girlfriends, all of whom were "model beautiful" and had "traditional values" and "know how to be feminine." My assistant explained that each of these girls would have believed and hoped she was on the path to marriage with the wealthy Westerner, and that her family and friends would be supporting this fantasy. Meanwhile, the guy would laugh about tearful voicemails they left him. At one point, he convinced some of them to go to bed with him at the same time, telling each girl privately that the other was a paid escort. So gross. Even more gross was the slippery slope to tolerance of this kind of behavior among the expats. |
Majority of the FSO like that. It like the government hires only the worst. |

Our tax-funded government agencies have become safe-houses for slick criminals. And then they get decades of protection if they play their cards right... like pedophiles flocking to the seminaries to gain easy access to young boys.
Just because someone gets a title, does not make them a good person. |
It's not just the government, it's a lot of male expats in general. /spent time at an embassy and at a large multinational overseas. They're ALL the worst! |
I also had a college friend who was rejected after the interview process. He was incredibly honest and I think got nervous during the polygraph—they were asking him questions about whether he was going to marry his girlfriend (he did) and he said they got all into his head. So it seems they are trying to screen out the people who have legitimate moral quandaries! |
Yep. I'm from an Eastern European country and I was working at a car show in high school. An American embassy employee came over to ask some information about servicing the embassy cars and, while I was looking for the brochures and talking, he jumped on me and tried to kiss me while holding my neck. I just froze in shock. I've never told anyone btw. |
That's a feature, not a bug. The main thing is you need to be really, REALLY good at lying and getting away with it convincingly. "Incredibly honest" and "nervous" or "earnest" gets you weeded out of the interview process right quick. |
He’s 47 and facing between 24 and 30 years, so likely. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-us-government-employee-pleads-guilty-sex-offenses |
As someone who grew up protected by Marine Security Guards at embasses, this is a really messed up thing to say. These were 19/20 year olds who serve with honor. The Gunny was always a figure of legend. I'm sure you can offer up some bad seed examples as with ANY group in the USA, but that is a lousy thing to say about someone's son/brother/ and today daughter. |
Agree - and also about state department. We have lived in quite a number of countries where we interacted closely with state department families and the vast majority are wonderful, idealistic and caring human beings . |

This was posted on another thread on off topics forum which was since shut down and linked to this one - very good outcome. So sorry for all the victims.
“Wow - he pleaded guilty, will face between 24 and 30 years, and will pay restitution to the victims. Fantastic result. https://www.justice.gov/o...x-offenses” |

I’m glad the man is being properly punished. Very good outcome m, though it sounds like there was evidence galore of his appalling crimes.
I’ve found the info in this thread fairly depressing. A deadly combination of economic disparity, institutional secrecy, and diplomatic immunity seems to attract some creepy men. Obviously not all but has to be more than in the general population. |
