Can somebody explain what's so wrong about what this man did? (dogs peeing on his plants)

LOL you think that makes a difference? There is a curb by the sidewalk in front of my house (and a public park about 20 feet away), yet I'd say the majority of dog owners let their dog pee wherever, and constantly in my yard and on plants.

The real unneighborly people are the dog owners who don't care. They're so entitled and rude.

We don’t live there so I can’t confirm whether any of that is accurate, but the actual thread gave a much different impression from this article.

He also built an absolute monstrosity of a house. No getting around that. It’s seriously hideous. So I suspect this isn’t all about the “spikes”.

He's a nut.

Evidence #1 - he designed the house/yard.

Evidence #2 - sign he had up earlier.

What's wrong with the sign? He probably posted it after getting fed up. Do you think ahole dog owners care about those "no dog pee zone" signs? Many take it as an invitation. There are good dog owners who understand this, but you're probably one of the entitled irresponsible ones.

The house isn't my taste, but so what?

People letting their dogs pee and crap on other people's property aren't a "nuisance?" Those nuisance neighbors shouldn't be allowing it in the first place.

I almost put a sign up like that. We put in expensive plants and the dogs killed 3 of them, costing us $1000 to replace.

The guy is being a dramatic a-hole. It's f-ing plant.

He could also just put up a fence. This guy just wants to get into a fight. He is making it a bigger issue.

Oh stop.

None of the excuses you crappy dog owners make is justified. People should not be letting their animals use other people's yards as a toilet--period. What he (or anyone else) "could" or "should" do is irrelevant. It starts and ends with dog owners being responsible for their animals. Period.

Someone would complain about the fence, and say “he could’ve gotten these harmless plastic spikes instead”

Those mats can’t cause any actual harm. But they are uncomfortable and the dog remembers it had an unpleasant experiencing peeing there.

What is unneighborly is allowing you pet to destroy other people’s property.

I’m a lifelong renter by choice. The last SFH we rented was on a hill above the street with a brick wall and 5 stairs separating the street and the landscaped lawn. I once caught a woman coming up the stairs with her dog!

Really? You need to ask what’s wrong with the sign?

- don’t have a dog

What's not neighborly is letting your animal kill someone's expensive landscaping with urine.

Right. I don't have a problem with what people put on their own property. I keep my dog off other people's property. In my neighborhood there are some roads with sidewalks and some without. I do not walk my dog where I can't curb him on public property. I don't want him killing grass much less expensive landscaping.

Please, my fellow dog people, let's be courteous to our neighbors.

No, I genuinely don't know what's wrong with the sign. Trespassers have been going on his property and causing damage, and he's fed up. I highly doubt this was his first expression of disapproval.

What would you do if someone started dumping their trash on your property? It's different than a piece of litter that blowed in with the wind. But a person/people who kept ignoring your requests to stop dumping their garbage on your property?

I protect my rose bushes from my own dogs in my own backyard. I don't think that's being dramatic, I think that's protecting my garden that I spent lots of money on!
