This forum has often been used for local news as well as local politics. That recognizes the fact that DCUM has a national audience and the Off-Topic forum is one that appeals to non-local users. More importantly in this instance, there were already several threads about local crime that had been posted in this forum and keeping them all together makes sense. Before I moved this thread, posters had posted in it about the shooting during the Nationals game and been told to post in the existing thread on that topic. But, that thread was in this forum, so not obvious to posters in Off-Topic. Moving this thread here is organizationally more logical.

This isn’t even the first time this happened in recent memory. It feels eerily similar to the murder of Makiyah Wilson.

What gets me is that, how many people know who did this? At least 20, right? The guys in both cars, some of their families. I don’t know how we can address anything until those 20 people value the lives of others enough to not be okay with this.

I think they ended up arresting like 10 people in the Makiyah Wilson case, and it was all about “gangs” from rival housing projects “protecting their turf.” I’m using quotes because these idiots aren’t even making minimum wage with this shit. It’s not like there’s an illegal empire at stake. There’s always someone with a straight job who’s actually paying the electricity bills.

this is what the most of the gun violence is. DC does not have gangs in the traditional sense. It is neighborhood crew beefs. The shooting up and down 14th are because the neighborhoods at the top of 14th are beefing with LeDroit park, shaw, etc. They are shooting at white people, but y'alls million dollar rowhomes are in the way.

Glad to see people protesting the senseless violence, but I would bet that there are plenty of people in that neighborhood who know who did this but refuse to turn the murderers in. That's a chronic (dare I say systemic?) problem with these kinds of crimes in DC. Their silence quite literally begets more violence.

That, and the fact that even if the perps are arrested, our incompetent AG Racine will just let them plead down the gun charge so they can be back on the streets "defending their turf" again.

They both have gotten coverage. Do you read Metro section in WP? Yes, this is a horrible murder. I hope the killers are broght to justice and the community speaks out against senseless violence. I watch morning and evening local news everyday/. The death of the 6 year old was mentioned a day later after the shooting at Nats game broke.
