Accepted to BASIS (rising 5th grader)
#24 waitlist at Washington Latin (our first pick)
Latin seems like a better fit but wondering how likely we are to get in with that number. Thoughts?
Take the bird in the hand?

This was our last shot after keeping our oldest in-bounds longer than we felt entirely comfortable, but yet another strike out with WL numbers at the usual suspects reasonably convenient to the Hill way too high to even have a glimmer of hope.

Guess you could say we got into MCPS.

Bust for me for K. Only possibility would be Hyde-Addison, number 60. Horrible IB. Wonder will school be hybrid, IPL or virtual.

Same. Guess I’ll go my private school route.

Grade 4. Already in a Deal feeder, but we applied to these schools to maximize our commute time since older sibling will be attending Deal next year.

I would be shocked to see that much drop off. Also, I recall feeling so despondent when we got our terrible PK3 numbers (200+ at ten schools, 300+ at six) that I wasn't excited to come on hear and share. Took me a few days to process.

my anecdotal data for pk3 and pk4 is longer wait lists than normal at dcps schools and shorter waitlists than normal at HRCS. i think lack of in person tours may have led more people to decide to stick with their IB dcps?

We'll see. It's geography-dependent, too. We are on the Hill, and there are so few DCPS schools that are even an option OOB for PK3 and PK4. So like everyone else, we ranked tons of charters both last year (PK3) and this year (PK4) because we want to maximize our chance of getting a spot anywhere. The lack of tours didn't factor in at all, and we ranked four schools that we have never set foot in (because we didn't rank them last year and thus have never toured them) simply because we want a PK spot.

I assume it works differently in other parts of the city, depending on the popularity of IB schools and how many charters are around.

If you ranked Latin higher then you'll be kept on that WL even if you accept BASIS - so nothing to lose.

Thanks - very helpful. Didn’t realize it worked that way. Thought once you accept you’re removed from all other waitlists. But yes, Latin was our top pick.

For prek3 17th on waitlist of LAMB (South Dakota) and 16th for Lee Montessori. Have slight hope one of those will pan out.

I feel like LAMB-SD will see a lot of movement as parents get real about the move to Kingsbury. So it seems like you have a great chance there! We’re in the 80s unfortunately.

Where did you see that?

Does this mean they add 2 classes at K?
We got in at K as well, but I don't think we'll take it over our IB.

Matched for pre-K3 at Yu Ying, no preference. Pretty shocked!

K has always been an expansion grade at MV with 40+ seats available for new students since pk3 and pk4 are combined classes that generally fill up with siblings.
