I don't disagree. But FWIW, I'm a liberal. And I voted for him in the primary; he was my guy. But even though I share many of his values, I see now that he's incapable of executing competently. He can talk the talk very well, but leading a large entity, like our county, his beyond his abilities. And given this pandemic, my priorities have shifted from matching to someone on ideology, to someone who has general competence. So, I won't vote for him this time, and will (hopefully) vote for Blair |

Actually it is- a lot of being county executive is managing people and money. Where do you want him to get experience first- county council? It’s not like he’s running for president or something. |

Elrich and co. want to do away with SFH zoning around the metro stations, which is going to mean, wait for it, a lot more development. Supposedly equitable development but we will see how that plays out. |

Judging by what's said here, Marc Elrich sounds like the best County Executive we've ever had. Somehow he is capable of being everything at once.
He's a NIMBY. He also wants to do away with single family zoning and allow development everywhere. He hates cops. He also loves cops. He sucks up to the police union. He also wants to defund the police. He's a socialist. And a communist. He also is a capitalist who caters to his wealthy base in Chevy Chase. But he is anti-business and wants to soak the rich. Nobody likes him except for Takoma Park/Silver Spring. And Chevy Chase. And Poolesville. He is incompetent and mismanages things. He is also a dictator and controls your lives. |

I initially agreed with this statement, and that's why I voted for Elrich. I don't like the idea of some rich businessman who thinks he can buy an office, and then just play around with County government. I figured Elrich would at least have the established democratic machine surrounding him, and I know many department leaders who are brilliant. But he's managed to run many of them off. He needs to learn to let his department heads run their departments, though. If he trusted them enough to appointment, why micromanage from the second floor? Elrich may be smart, but he's not as smart as career professionals in their respective fields. |

That's incorrect. Elrich opposed the bill. Adding the new housing would not make units affordable for low- and middle-income residents, she said. “In the Missing Middle Study, missing middle housing was the same footprint as surrounding single-family homes,” she said. “But now, [the planning department] is saying that developers have concerns about that and that they’re going to explore increasing heights, getting rid of parking, and even subdividing small R-60 lots. This [zoning text amendment] can’t address all of these problems.” Elrich would like to see the housing issue addressed through other initiatives, particularly Thrive Montgomery 2050, a general plan for future growth and development in the county. |

yes, this exactly. I switch back and forth based on local and national elections and which party's primary is more important. It is an easy task. Critical to do this in MOCO where the primary is effectively the general election. More residents need to understand this and VOTE in the primaries. It is fine to be an independent but it means that you have NO VOICE in a closed state like Maryland. Party registration is meaningless. BE PRAGAMATIC! |

This is exactly the experience we need! Are you impressed by Elrich's experience as an elementary school teacher or his years as a political hack on our joke of a county council. I think we have seen how valuable that "experience" is

No, we don't need anyone with no experience with county government. Obviously having experience with county government is not sufficient for being a good county executive. But that doesn't mean that a good county executive has no experience with county government. Also, for what it's worth, he's not a political hack. His primary motivation seems to be sincere conviction. If it weren't, he would be a better county executive. |

Unfortunately, raising awareness about this will have to be at the grassroots level. Both parties have a vested interest in preserving the duopoly. The legislature could change Maryland to an open primary state but that too would take a lot of grassroots pressure. |

He is exhibit A for a political hack. County Govt. experience, what a joke! You don't think an accomplished local business person knows exactly how local government works plus the private sector experience. So many people have an inflated opinion of of elected county officials. The only experience most of them have is finding new ways to further screw up this county. Not a problem solver among them. |
