On that notice is a link to a document - the document contains whether your child was accepted.

I think it is harder to get in from the middle school magnets, just like it’s harder to get into the middle school magnets after CES.

Why do you think this?

Agree. But what is the f point of going to MS magnet then???

To learn to research, analyze, and write at a higher level than they would be taught at a regular MS. To be taught to solve complex math problems and apply the concepts to a variety of situations. To challenge themselves, to stretch.

These kids will be very well prepared for AP classes.

I have one kid who has graduated from MCPS in the magnet track and another who is now in the magnet track. If you could only pick one magnet program our of ES, MS and HS...then the best program to pick up is the MS magnet. The regular non-Magnet MS is quite substandard.

Any HS will function very closely like a magnet HS for your child if they stick to mainly AP courses. You certainly get a good cohort.

NP. If the home school is blind info, could be that not as many straight As in the MS magnets. SO many straight As at DC's excellent W pyramid MS.

Also so many high-stats kids rejected for the MS magnets, a number that returned to the home MS may well have edged out some of the MS magnet kids in MAP scores this time.

Not gloating, just suggesting plausible scenarios. But I'm sure you didn't gloat at all during MS admissions. You were probably one of the ones saying the CES students not admitted "just didn't cut it." Of course I would never use that language.

How is this gloating? If you really want to know, post your DC stats and you can compare them to the admitted students. Otherwise, what's the point of complaining and asking "why"?

I feel for your DD. My DD is in TPMS magnet. Doing really well and won math contests. She only applied for Blair SMAC and got rejected. None of her friends made it either. She is so heart-broken.

Thanks for responding! The only thing in documents is a copy of my DD’s transcript that I uploaded last fall (she is in private school)...

But she still has those talents and skills. It is her that makes her success, not the high school. You must remind her of this.

The competition to get into Blair SMAC is so intense, just a heartbreaker every admissions cycle. They really should open a second SMAC program given the interest and talent in the county.
