It's to help the teachers transition to the new routines before they have to start guiding children through them. How is this so difficult to understand?

Great, have them start in school 2 weeks before students return. Because then we’ll know what routines will be in place when students returns. WIll they still be wearing masks? Social distancing? Who knows.

They need to make sure teachers will actually show up before they set a return date and communicate that to the community. If teachers would commit to returning to the classroom, there might not need to be so much lead time.

And what makes them think teachers won’t return to teach in classroom alone but balk at having students there. That seems like a line that many might draw. I would.

Asking teachers to go teach in empty classrooms with no date set for students to return??? I can understand asking teachers to return a week or so before student return, but what is this?

I suspect they plan to have students returning very soon. But they don’t want to show their hand. I think they have dates.

YUP.. time to explore different and new avenues to bring in new teachers that would welcome the opportunity to move here and teach in person.

Because I don’t need to practice new routines! I’m going to be teaching mostly the same way, just inside the school building. The only thing that’s different is that I will wear a mask and have my temp taken before I enter. Do you need to practice entering your office building and sitting at your desk for weeks before you return to working there?!?

+ 1 100% agree with this.

Question for ES. Do all teachers need to return to school building, even if they are designated as teaching DL when hybrid is implemented? I'm mostly curious if I'll be able to tell whether my DC's teacher will be changing.

Most people who have been assigned to DL have an ADA workplace accommodation and are not allowed into the building at all.
