Please check your misplaced outrage. History shows us what happens to those who start to believe a class of people is a deserving target of their anger.

History teacher for the win.

I’m a teacher and prepared to return with students. I really don’t understand why I need to put on a mask and teach in an empty room to my students who are home. It’s just illogical.

same! I have been wanting to go back since the fall and even advocating for it. I'm just annoyed that I would need to go to school to teach to an empty classroom. it doesn't make sense to me, and it really would increase my risk. I'm not going to fight this, I just don't get it

It increases their risk of exposure from other teachers (shared bathrooms, who knows how HVAC works, etc). For freaking theater.

WTF muscle memory? When they can go back safely and teach to students in person, they won’t forget how to stand in front of a whiteboard

Unless they haven't left their house since the pandemic began, this is no more risky than their every day activities.

BS. Shared bathrooms alone make it way way higher. Have you ever used a school bathroom?

DP. I use the school bathroom virtually every time I’m at the school. School bathrooms are about the same as other public bathrooms. Have you not used a public bathroom since March?

Of course not. Many people aren’t. Have you not read all the travel forums about how to get to places with minimal or zero restroom stops. Going. Someplace within 30 min of my house why would I need to use their bathroom?

I can see why people who are literally not going anywhere and still having groceries delivered would not want to use a public bathroom. But if you are at Target and have to pee, you are telling me that you would just hold it? Is the Target bathroom more risky than the rest of Target? Sorry to derail this tread, but I am genuinely curious about this.

I’m not 4. I go the bathroom before I leave, and am in and out of target as fast as possible. If for some reason it came up I had to pee AGAIN, I would go home; its a 15 min drive. Have you ever been in a target bathroom? They have no ventilation.

Teaching to an empty classroom seems like a petty punishment from the “Open schools now” crowd

This. They are going to have to teach from the school wearing masks while all the students are at home. It's idiotic. Many teachers have a whole setup at home that works pretty good by now. This is theater for the APEs.

Anyone listening to the citizen comments right now? I had no idea that pediatric psych beds at local hospitals are all full -- is this true?

It's to help the teachers transition to the new routines before they have to start guiding children through them. How is this so difficult to understand?

Pediatric psych beds are always full. Everywhere. They are impossible to find. Pandemic or no. DL or no. That is a very disingenuous statement if they are trying to connect that to the APS back to school situation.

We are in Fairfax so I'm not listening to this meeting, but I'm quite certain pediatric psych beds are almost always in short supply. I expect it's even worse now because a lot of the specialized schools that usually serve children with very severe emotional disabilities are not open or are not taking new students.

Until they feel 100 % confident they can ward of any possible lawsuit from teachers or staff.

Great, have them start in school 2 weeks before students return. Because then we’ll know what routines will be in place when students returns. WIll they still be wearing masks? Social distancing? Who knows.

Are they aware of their acronym? I mean, I know monkeys aren’t apes, but they are a barrel full of them

I hope teachers have prepared a lawsuit. They should. APS is making it easier for them by ordering them back at the apex (for now) of the pandemic.
