| Ugh dog people are so foul and shameless. I can’t believe anyone would defend this. |
| It’s a TRASH CAN. That’s where it belongs. |
Please just assume that everyone feels this way! Imagine being a non dog owner who is power washing their can in February because your dogs poop bag burst in it. Take it home. It is your mess. |

Ha ha ha. This got brought up in The NY Times referring to a message board post:
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/25/style/checking-in-social-qs.html?surface=most-popular&fellback=false&req_id=458977039&algo=bandit-all-surfaces-uh-lastthisweek-alpha-01&variant=5_bandit-all-surfaces-uh-lastthisweek-alpha-01&imp_id=974195732&action=click&module=Most%20Popular&pgtype=Homepage It’s the last social Q and the verdict is don’t put your dog poop in people’s private trash bins use public ones. |
I saw someone go onto a neighbor's property the other day to dump the poop bag in her trash can in front of her garage. |
But I agree with the OP that those little bags get stuck at the bottom, then start marinating in hot weather. |
Our garbage people just grab the garbage bags out. Everything is supposed to be in a bag. Your dogs poop will stay there, evenutally the bag will pop and then I am cleaning out your dog poop. Please take it home and deal with it yourself! |

Think OP.. Think!!!!
Opton one: Hide in the bin and just as they touch the lid, pop up like jack in the box and say very loud while pointing at them - Aha! Gotcha! Option two: Don't put the note : please do not put the pop into my trash bin. Just put a permanent note somewhere near by in big big letters: Smile you are on camera. or something another.. on amazon probably for five bucks?

Seriously is it even a question for some?
The OP, pays for trash service monthly. If someone uses it without permission and authorization they are stealing form the OP. They are also trespassing. If the OP happens to have dog allergy and get sick from the smell or from touching it.. the HOLE who did it can be in big huge trouble from this. Those who thing no big deal can wake up with their both legs in doo doo. |
| I only do if I don't like you. |
+1 Now, I don't have a dog, so I'm not actually doing this - but if I did find myself walking a dog, I would totally do this. The poop is in a plastic bag right? And knotted closed? Then it's just trash, and it's a trash can. I also would not mind at all if someone else put dog poop (properly wrapped) into my trash cans. They're TRASH CANS they're not supposed to smell like roses. Yes, I can see how if one got stuck at the bottom and smushed and burst, that would be gross - but that's just bad luck, and could just as easily happen with some of my own trash. But, if I saw a sticker on the can that said Please No Dog Poop, I would put it in a different trash can. I can follow basic instructions. I would guess that you'd stop 90%+ of this with a simple sticker. |
I would not use this sticker. Tons of people, as you can see based on this thread, including myself, think that putting dog poop in a trash can is fine. We would see this sign and think "don't break in" not "don't put trash in our trash can." Get a sign that specifically mentions dog poop. |
|
Just add a sign to the top. They'll start dropping it your neighbor's can.
I hate this too. If it's on top of a bunch of bags, fine. But on the bottom of an empty can I'm going to be irritated. It's rude. Carry your stinky dog's poop home. |
|
Stop putting it in my trash can. If the poop is so innocuous then why don't you take it home and put it in your own trash can. By the logic I read here, it can just go in your kitchen trash can.
Are dog people obnoxious and unneighborly everywhere or is this just Washington? |
DC will NOT take dog poop bags. They will not take loose trash. Also, in historic districts, many people have to bring their bins BACK INTO THEIR HOME. The only trash that DC will take from the bins must be bagged in tall kitchen or larger bags. even grocery-size bags will be left. DC does not use the arm to pick up the bins, the bags are removed by hand from the bins and tossed into the garbage truck. |
