Maryland has had a curfew for a few weeks now, and it's done NOTHING to blunt the surge. Our leaders, both Democrats and Republicans, are irresponsible worms (no offense to worms).

Let’s just cut to the chase. This isn’t because of local officials, or state officials, or personal responsibility.

The federal government dropped the ball. Completely. Big time.

New restriction for 4 week (at least) to see if actions help preserve hospital capacity. These take effect NEXT Wednesday at 5 p.m. to allow stakeholder input and to allow restaurant owners to use the food they have in stock.

1) Restaurants and bars - Contact tracing shows that virus is being spread here at higher rates than other business activities. CDC also said that people over 65 and those with health conditions should not enter any public place where people aren't masked. AA County will move from 25% capacity to takeout only.
Will start Takeout Anne Arundel marketing campaign to encourage takeout. Some assistance will be provided for workers. Will also bring bill to county council to restrict fees that delivery services can charge to restaurants.

2) Retail - moved to 25% fire code capacity. County Exec. does not believe that this will have major impact on sales.

3) Fitness centers - remain open 25% capacity and every needs to wear masks. If you can't wear masks, exercise at home. Classes suspended.

4) Casinos - Live Casino - move from 50% capacity to 25% capacity with no food service.

5) Salons, barbers, personal service - 25% capacity

6) Religious facilities - one-third capacity restriction - religious institutions said it should not be a problem - can have larger outdoor gatherings

7) Fellowship addiction recovery - 25%??

8) Social club facilities (Elks, VFW) - 25% capacity - no food

9) Organized sports - all suspended for for weeks (not just Park and Rec) - I assume this means that all the indoor soccer, futsal, basketball, etc. facilities are now closed.

Rinks, adult entertainment facilities - all closed

This cannot be true. So adults can work out in gyms, but teenagers can't practice sports? Unbelievable.

Even more, adults can gamble at a casino but teenagers can't practice sports.
UGH!

weren't indoor sports already closed?

Is there a chance MoCo will suspend outdoor sports?

No - they only suspended outdoor organized sports in Parks and Rec. facilities, indoors and out. Sports continued on private fields and facilities.

The fish rots from the head. BUT - when the President is AWOL, when he leans on the CDC to hide virus facts, and his base does the opposite of what's safe, you'd hope that Governors might implement stricter measures. I have yet to see that in action. They lack political courage, and when your state has exploding cases and hospitalizations, that's criminally negligent.

Yes, all organized sports and practices, indoor and out, are shut down in Anne Arundel County.

Learn about your country and its government. States retain "police powers" which include public health.

The big ones are an Executive Order to protect Maryland businesses from increases in unemployment insurance taxes and forgiveness of the $75 million dollars in emergency loans to Maryland businesses.

More calls for Congress to act.

Because it hasn’t been enforced. That needs to change. People need to start getting sent to jail.

What is this mysterious Maryland curfew people are taking about? I don't even think Maryland has broad social gathering size restrictions.

I am unaware of a Curfew in Maryland? Assuming there is...... how do you want it enforced? Should the county Police start stopping people walking and driving for bring in violation?
Anonymous
There’s no curfew and has never been in MD. Maybe the PP was thinking of the 10pm closure for bars and restaurants? That isn’t a curfew.

You don't know that, at all. It's much more prevalent in multi-generation, multi-family dwellings.

Where people have to work, every day, in exposed jobs. Pretending that spread within families has nothing to do with job safety is just disingenuous. I understand why locking down businesses is so hard, since those families affected have little safety net right now. But pretending pandemic spread is mainly the fault of individual choices and that a business pause or lock down wouldn’t help is BS.

Congress is failing us. Has failed us. Completely.

I'm sure that no one wants to hear this, but if the choice is between living and dying, shouldn't we be recommending that families with extensive public exposure, especially multi-generational households, have everyone wear masks inside the home as much as possible?

Yeah, I live with an essential worker. I wear a mask in common areas but he won’t. Maybe if the government recommended this he would.

Lol. There is nothing- absolutely nothing- that would convince me to wear a mask at home. If you're that scared, then you should move out. Maybes trying to scare you away already.

My MIL is elderly with many health issues and very high risk, and my SIL (who lives with her but goes out to grocery stores) wears a mask when they are in the same room.
