Cheap: not good at spending money on anything for myself

This is me, except I will spend money on expensive handbags/wallets for me. My one guilty pleasure.

This is me as well.

I rarely spend money on myself and when I do it's only bc item is truly beyond use (hole in the bottom of my shoe, 1+yr since last Hair Cuttery visit, still wear clothes from years ago, no make-up type person, etc).

I like to give a lot of money to charity. I spend good money on wine and eating out. Cheap about house, cars, anything consumerish.

I meal plan based on the weekly sales at the grocery store (also helps to narrow down the choices). I ALWAYS use a discount code when shopping on line. I comparison shop for items -- searching out multiple vendors to find the best price. I also do a LOT of DIY because I find that most service providers charge an arm and a leg for basic repairs and services. Example - had a leak in my car. Was told to bring it in for a $400 evaluation, and THEN they could tell me what the repair would cost. I responded by diagnosing the problem via google, watching a 10-minute Youtube video, and fixing it... all within a 30 minutes. Saved myself AT LEAST $400 and hours of time with barely any effort.

Do you work 50 hours a week and have children at home?

DINK here

Spend: travel, nice home + remodel, art/culture (concerts), hobbies (music lessons, skiing), groceries, gifts for DH and our families, pets

Cheap: eating out, hair/beauty, bike to work (pre-covid), housecleaner (only 1X month), we enjoy DIYing a lot of things

I spend big on my hobbies, and on entertainment. But not during COVID

I am cheap as hell about my cars - I drive the ugliest clunkers you can imagine.

Curious why you revived a 5+ month old thread.

Cheap on everything but travel and tipping. I don't count dollars when on a trip. too busy buying something and moving on to the next activity.
Fairly cheap on everything else since the cheap stuff is usually just as good as the expensive crap, or I just don't care for it
(haircut and color once year, same with nails, jewelry, clothes.)

We spend money on travel, food (lots of takeout these days and we like to entertain people) and outsourcing things like car repair, landscaping etc. I also go overboard for kids activities, medium priced summer camps even though I am a SAHM and we don’t technically need them, and we give the kids lots of presents for holidays and birthdays.

Cheap about personal care stuff. Cheap clothes for adults only when needed, nothing trendy (I spend way too much on the kids), I haven’t bought a purse in a decade. Basic haircuts once or twice a year for me and every couple months for DH and kids as needed. Zero spa or beauty treatments, only cheap drug store skin and hair products. No or minimal gifts for adults for birthdays, cheap wine and beer. Basic used cars, no fancy electronics. We bought the cheapest house in the best area we could afford with the plan of eventually adding on or tearing down, but for now our housing cost is lower than what we could afford. IKEA furniture.

Spend on: Housing (my PITA is a big chunk of income), nanny share, throwing money at a problem (baby not sleeping? I'll gladly pay extra to overnight a second set of blackout curtains to layer on), cats (we have three, one has diabetes, costs add up), charitable donations.

Cheap on: Transport (walk or metro, no cars, rarely take cabs), clothes (bargain shop or thrift), entertainment, personal care (two cheap haircuts a year, no dye, no makeup, no special lotions, no manicures), furnishing and decor.

Fancy holiday clothes (like boutiques), goodwill for everything else.

Fancy vacation destination, cheap hotels.

Cheap on cars for living in a 2 mil home. Spend on education and food.

Very cheap on home decor. I don't see the need to fill the house with things to just look at and collect dust. Also very cheap on "self care". Get haircuts once a year (even before pandemic), no mani/pedi, etc.

Splurge on vacations and good quality food.
