Next season tryouts?

Anonymous
We're still doing zoom training 2-3 times per week and exercise logs.

From what I hear, our club will try to keep the same teams and maybe add a couple of good extra players to the roster. Worrying about keeping existing players and not crazy tryouts.

NL opening up schools and youth sports with very specific guidelines at different ages. No professional sports until Sept 1.

Netherlands at per capita has been hit harder than US - cases, deaths, and death rate. Will be interesting case study. .

We will probably need Germany & other European countries to lead the way for us on this. Too much media and politically driven hysteria here for us to see things clearly. Amazing that we have been able to turn a virus into a political issue.

I hope these organizers have a lot of liability insurance....

People keep saying this in a variety of contexts, but it is not applicable.

1. There is no insurance that is available for covid for soccer tournaments, business conventions, etc.

2. Even if there were available insurance that was not cost-prohibitive, then it would be damn-near impossible to collect on that insurance, as you would have to prove you caught the virus at the tournament, business convention, etc., as opposed to catching it in your local grocery store, gas station, hotel, etc.

3. Organizers of soccer tournaments, business conventions, etc. are not forcing anybody to attend, and they will make sure that you will sign an all-encompassing waiver as a condition to attending the event.

4. As a result, you will not have any claim against the event if you catch the virus. And even if you thought you had a claim, you'd have to successfully prove you caught it at the event in order for there to be any liability.

Here’s a shorter legal analysis: waiver. But all this too.

Good luck with that

Will be interesting to see in a couple months how many people have paid in because they are so worried Landon and Mia will lose their spot . . .

The "clowns" like me are going to wait to see what happens, and make decisions based on facts, not conjecture.

Luck has nothing to do with that. You can throw in assumption of risk as well.

Plus there are way too many parents who won't allow their kids to play even if they do allow training in the summer. I believe Fall at the earliest for games.

People are not going to keep being hermits for the high risk.

Sure, maybe your and my kid will be out there, but there will be ALOT of kids not allowed. Alot people will not be ready to send their kids out to play soccer in June with no treatments available, etc. What will the liability be to the clubs? Will the clubs and coaches want that responsibility? Will the clubs want this headache?

Don’t buy into the fear. Use facts, how many teenagers have died in the US from covid? How many tweens have died in the US from covid? How many infants and toddlers have died from covid? If they do get sick it’s like the flu at worse for them. I know it’s scary but if you actually look at the facts it really isn’t that scary. Now if you have someone that is high risk maybe it’s a different story for you but life will move forward by June.

June? What states are going to be fully into phase 3 by June? What local governments are going to allow mass gatherings without social distancing by June? Whether or not some people want to assume the risk is not really relevant, the government types are going to move very slowly on this...

Teenagers may not have but teachers have died.

You seem to fundamentally lack an understanding that potential for the disease to be easily transmitted asymptomatically is the problem.

Soccer is not happening in June and states opening up will be sporadic that a national level league like ECNL will struggle to get a fall season in much less showcases requiring teams from across the nation to attend.

Fall is second wave. We will close again and just after we get a taste of being open. My kids still love to play but I wonder at what point does it all fall apart. Sorry I just saw CDC report

Of course we wlll have multiple waves. This is why staying locked down is absolutely ridiculous unless we are all going to wait for vaccines. You are simply postponing the waves. That does not necessarily mean a return to lockdowns. It could, but it might not.

Which means that things like soccer will not be back to normal until next spring. Banking on a normal fall season is silly considering the non-essential nature of a activity.

The NFL is discussing playing in empty stadiums and you think soccer will be full steam ahead?

I love your optimism and I/we all hope YOU are right but I just don’t see how this goes the way you hope it goes.

Sorry, you are not going to be able to sue anyone, this was in the news yesterday....

"Major U.S. business lobbying groups are asking Congress to pass measures that would protect companies large and small from coronavirus-related lawsuits when states start to lift pandemic restrictions and businesses begin to reopen. "

Soccer is not football. The risk in football is not with the players, its with the fans. Youth soccer has essentially no fans.
