Next season tryouts?

There is training, and then there is playing games. I can see training in June, with appropriate distancing in place. Games are a bit murkier to predict.

How is training safer than playing games?

Phase 2 still requires physical distancing. I’m not sure all youth sports will be allowed. Phase 3 is when soccer will resume.

You are on the wrong board if you don’t know the answer to this question. But obviously we don’t want to distract you from your vaccine work, Dr. Salk. 😀

A team could easily train together while maintaining social distancing. Think of all the drill work, juggling, running, etc. that the kids are currently doing by themselves, except in June (perhaps) they will be doing it with their coach and teammates. Passing and shooting drills would also be easy to do while maintaining social distancing.

Small sided games and scrimmages would be Phase 3.

Problem is touching the balls etc

Solution: Bring your own ball, and don't touch other people's balls with your hands (unless you are a goalie wearing goalie gloves).

Phase 2 allows schools, daycare, camps and youth activities

Soccer training is probably safer than all of the above. Per a pp, you don’t need to touch someone else’s ball. You can have hand sanitizer on training field. You can avoid drills that touch each other.

I am actually okay with it For my child but I also want to be sensitive that some kids have parents who are higher risk and frankly some Kids that are higher risk. It is a balance for sure and I am sure all the clubs are considering this.

Yeah, I don't think there will be anything this summer. Too risky. People are saying maybe June or July just to keep hopes up and string us along. Plus there are way too many parents who won't allow their kids to play even if they do allow training in the summer. I believe Fall at the earliest for games.

Seems to me at some point the people who know they, their families, etc., are higher risk need to make their own decisions about what is safe. They may not even feel safe in Phase 3, and that's okay. But like with the mess that online education is right now, we can't all do the same thing because of issues a subset of folks have (for whatever reason they have them -- not placing blame.)

Look outside the DMV at other top soccer markets. NY FL . . . no soccer until 2021. CA clubs already planning for 2021. We will be social distancing all Fall. Stop pretending and don't worry about the landscape until closer to Christmas. Above all, don't accept an offer on a team and put money down. All the clubs need that money to survive Fall, so there will be some suckers paying in to hold a roster spot. If your player is good, there will be a spot in 2021.

You clowns are going to pay for a fall season of juggling and training with your own ball without games? Wow, you can do that for free. The clubs have you brainwashed. Will be interesting to see in a couple months how many people have paid in because they are so worried Landon and Mia will lose their spot . . .

OK, Coach/TD/DOC/Crazy Soccer Dad. Wow, work the boards to offer hope so you don't go defunct.

My kid will be back in school by the fall, somewhere, and so will many others. They will certainly be playing sports. It’s obviously fine if your family chooses differently. Might be useful for all of us to bring a little more humility to our predictions and a lot less intolerance to the opinion of others.
