My waist measured 24” today!

I have lost an inch of height and am now 5'1". I have gone from 105 all my life to 125 now in my 50s, nearly 60. I am far more careful with eating than I used to be. I want to continue doing 1 marathon a year. (I used to do 2-3, sigh.) But dang --- 125? Where does all that weight come from when you work out 6 days a week?? And it is all in my belly! My waist is about 29". I cannot say that without being flabbergasted -- it was always 25" til 10 years ago.

Awesome! Please don’t beat yourself up over a few inches.. At your age you are definitely in the minority.

Because they haven't had a 26 inch waist since they were 4.

Another 26 inch waist woman here. I assure you that I eat...but I also exercise, don't drink and I don't stress eat like so many others do. Instead of telling OP she has an eating disorder take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why you've let yourself go. When did YOU stop caring about how you look?

OP here. People have stopped caring about their appearance big time. Except for a extremely small percentage. I don’t understand what’s going on. I know at my age I’m an anomaly which my DH appreciates. It’s ok, it just makes me stand out even more!

You stand out as a smug twat, that's for sure.

Did you mean to say, “love that?” Or did it just come out that way because you had a mouth full of cookie dough???

I don’t know why you think all your detractors are fat. We’re not, we just don’t feel the need to blazon our gaping abyss of neediness all over the internet.

I really don’t believe that at all. Because people admire others that they can identify with and applaud them and cheer them on. People that despise these posts think that people with fit lean figures have something they can’t have . But in reality pretty much anyone can!

There is a big difference between a 24 and 26 inch waist. For you to get your already small waist to a 24 you would have to go some seriously unhealthy calorie restrictions.

Believe what makes you feel good, babe. On the internet, we all have 24 inch waists.

OP, stand-alone eating disorder clinics probably aren’t affected by the shortage of medical supplies like hospitals are. Now is probably a good time to get treatment while everything else is shut down.

If you are 57 with a 24 inch waist you probably already have osteoporosis from your nutrient restrictive diet. Being extremely slim and old doesn't look healthy at all.

Counterpoint: I have a 26-inch waist and I definitely have disordered eating. The anxiety disorder is my major problem, and I don't meet the diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder, but I definitely have some major and not healthy control issues around food. (I'm talking to a therapist and trying to work on it.) And when I had a 24-inch waist, I did meet the diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder.

Wait. You are 57 years old and posting on an anonymous website about your waist measurement???

I have a 24 inch waist too. There's an additional 4 or 6 inches as well, but definitely at least 24 inches of waist. Didn't realize it was brag-worthy.

Congrats OP! I'm normally at 26" at 5'2", but have a hourglass. I've gained weight over the past year and I'm now at 29" and working on getting back down. This is inspiring.

Why are posters calling those of us in our 50s old?? There is a lot of ageism here. I think of old as my mother -- late 80s. (Though she still swims 1 mile 3 days week at the JCC. So maybe old isn't until you are 90. )

I pretty much still do all my sports and activities (hiking, swimming, cross-country skiing ) that i did in my 20s. It has never stopped. But now I can afford better equipment

I guess I only know women like me because, well, that is who I have things in common with. I don't personally know "old" women in their 50s, but I guess they are out there.

So, what defines "old"? State of mind? Lack of activity?

I know! Same here. All my friends in their late 40s, 50s are in shape and look young. Did you know that Aunt Bee from Andy Griffith was 58 yrs old when she started on the show! Isn’t that crazy?!
