Potomac vs Landon

Potomac is on the rise too but at a cost of embracing a lack of community and total inflexibility as to student needs.

This. Signed Potomac Parent.

I am going agree. My DC has work over spring break and some major tests assigned right when they get back so of course they are studying on top of work. Spring break should be a complete break.

100%. Distorts the notion of a break. Know any healthy adult workaholics?

I mean they have TWO weeks off…I don’t think it’s horrible to have some work to do across 14 days (half a month). Most aren’t going on a two week vacation and those who are- well I am sure they can find some time to squeeze in some work.

What does “lack of community” mean in this context?

Let your son go to both and make the decision himself.

It is when it comes on the heels of an assembly intended to address mental health/stress. Talking out of both sides of their mouth.

How do the facilities compare between the two schools?

I have been told that college acceptances this year have been harsh at all of these schools, but my source is a parent so the information may not be accurate. Any idea how that is going for class of 2022?

The schools are different academically and in other ways. OP should talk to unaffiliated folks

Class of 2021? Potomac has been 25-30% going to "top 25" schools. Landon has 12-15% going to "top 25" schools. It's all public forum info. I wouldn't say admissions were harsh

Have you been hanging out under a rock? I’m sure they’re talking about 2022-and I think every counselor and kid would say this was a harsh year regardless of school.

It was not harsh at Potomac

Hopefully not Chris rock. But no . Class of 2022 info isn’t published yet so we can’t refer to public form info regarding it but Potomac admission was fine as always.

I have one graduate from Potomac and one from Landon. Potomac is academically challenging which is objective pressure. However, my son experienced bullying from a teacher which would never happen at Potomac. I took the issue to the school and they had the teacher ‘apologize’ to my son which was a joke. The teacher should have been fired for bullying my son via email which I showed the school. It traumatized my son as he had to sit in the class for another semester.

Getting back to OP question.

1) which sport your son likes matters in this instance. For boys, Potomac has a strong soccer team, baseball team, basketball team, track and lacrosse team- not a good football team. If your kid is gung ho football and wants to get recruited, Potomac may not be the place. Potomac has a many Ivy and top 25 D1/2/3 recruited athletes in a variety of sports though.

2- Does your kid care about making varsity? Landon generally fields strong teams across most sports and probably has more sporty boys, but as a result there may not be room for a freshman unless he’s a rock star. Potomac has many sporty boys, just fewer than Landon since it’s not all boys. So there is a chance as a freshman to make varsity

3) which academics is your kid drawn to? Each school has a unique set of differentiators by subject.

4) does your boy want to interact with girls at school

5) where do you live? Honestly if I were in MD I would choose Landon and if I were in VA Potomac- you are at school so much for sports and events that proximity to home becomes a real thing. If I were in a central DC location wouldn’t be a factor
