Potomac vs Landon

Google Potomac matriculation and set up a simple Excel file to confirm this, if you do not believe.

Tell me the number for the same statistics for Landon.

dig deeper...the athletic stars sign at prestigious colleges. for the kids who are academic stars, where do they end up matriculating?....I have kids in US at Potomac and a number of parents have been very disappointed with college placement in the last couple of years.

Interesting. Why has the college placement not been so great the past few years?

Vibe at the schools? Social scene? Academics? Opportunities to play sports? College counseling?

Thanks so much!

OP: take a look at the thread of Gonzaga versus Potomac. It is clear that people are saying Potomac, not Gonzaga, is as academic pressure cooker.

yeah, right. By people you mean the Potomac booster who may or may not work for the school?

The fact somebody posted to compare Potomac to 2 schools makes me think they are a booster of Potomac or their kid didn’t get accepted to Landon or GZ and has a bone to pick.

Yes- Potomac booster you are the best. You are winning at life—-(even if most people in DC haven’t heard of the school). Feel better now?

OP here. Indeed I’m a parent seeking info from the kind parents in this forum as we make a difficult decision between schools. Haven’t posted before and naively believed that was the purpose of this forum.
I’m disappointed to see the thread hijacked by a parent (or maybe immature teen? Can’t tell) who clearly has strong biases and little knowledge of the schools. I wish you well but am glad we’re unlikely to cross paths. A sincere thank you to those who have been helpful in their posts. Truly appreciated!

BS

There seems to be a Potomac booster trying to drum up interest with these multiple threads. Strange

+1. Maybe their Advancement/Admission folks are all over here?

Low applications today year?

Certainly not that

actually seems like the opposite...some upset parent that their child didn't get into Potomac and is now trying to find some form of "confirmation bias" that other options just as good/better. Potomac has plenty of demand for it to need a "booster" to hype it up.

Potomac college matriculation is far more impressive than Landon if you're looking at Academics and their "rankings". Not even close. Landon athletes have a way better chance to get a D1/D2 sport recruit offer

disclaimer: i dont have a child at Potomac nor have in the past

Academics and placement are better at Potomac but not so much as that it would matter over fit. Landon has much better leadership at the highest level and is clearly on the rise. Potomac is on the rise too but at a cost of embracing a lack of community and total inflexibility as to student needs.

Choose what is easy for you in times of commute. Both are great schools. I thought about both choices 3 years ago. I choose the one that the commute is easier. Also let your son pick where he think he do well. I mean the he really likes. But Landon is well balanced it helps boys to be boys without the distraction of girls.

As at any school this says more about the kids than the academics. If you are a strong student you will do well at both and if you are not a strong student Potomac will not get you that 1440

Your child will have a harder time making the varsity teams at Landon vs Potomac just given the all boys nature (2x amount of candidates for same amount of spots). If your kid is top 1% in sports (ie top clubs in top league) this may not matter. But if he is not he may have more difficulty rising to the top in a competitive sports environment at Landon.

Potomac is competitive but it’s coed so competition for the 15 varsity spots isn’t as cut throat because only half the student body is male.

Good luck!

You are kidding me!

The average SAT at Potomac in 2019 is 1440 for Potomac and 1250 for Landon!!! Source: www.lotusprep.com. Google: best 34 high schools in the DC area

What a joke of a source. A test prep company. Even Niche has them almost the same yet you chose this obscure site?

SAT score averages are published by the school so there's no guessing game. Niche is user submitted (and somewhat smoothed). I wouldnt worry about it

Potomac : 1440
Landon : 1320

source: the schools. find them on their sites if you must

Location.

Both good schools. Pick the one with easiest commute. He will be spending a ton of time at school so commute is a big deal.
