BS

There seems to be a Potomac booster trying to drum up interest with these multiple threads. Strange

+1. Maybe their Advancement/Admission folks are all over here?

You are kidding me!

The average SAT at Potomac in 2019 is 1440 for Potomac and 1250 for Landon!!! Source: www.lotusprep.com. Google: best 34 high schools in the DC area

What a joke of a source. A test prep company. Even Niche has them almost the same yet you chose this obscure site?

Please!! Take a look at the ranking and see if it is consistent with people’s priors. TJ, Sidwell, NCS, STA, ,,,,

Know a kid who went to Landon to make the varsity team, but did not make it. Parents want him out now. What is the point if remaining given the so so academics.

So they overestimated his abilities and are now upset?

Vibe at the schools? Social scene? Academics? Opportunities to play sports? College counseling?

Thanks so much!

OP: take a look at the thread of Gonzaga versus Potomac. It is clear that people are saying Potomac, not Gonzaga, is as academic pressure cooker.

I am not sure. Friends say that politics are involved but I am aware that parents are not exactly neutral...

Anonymous wrote:Potomac is a pressure cooker academically. If your DC's self-esteem is wrapped up at all in grades and being in the hardest classes, it's a grind that never stops. Some kids are able to let that go, enjoy their friends, and be okay with it. But for most, it is very competitive. If your DC is looking to be recruited in his sport, very little of this happening at Potomac. Unfortunately, the school seems to be moving toward becoming a stronger sports school and this is a massive mistake. They need to get the stress levels under control before they start layering on another area of pressure for these kids.

You don't really know what you are talking about. Potomac kids absolutely do get recruited for sports. In the class of 2019 there were kids recruited for DI and DIII football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, track/CC, tennis, golf, squash, etc... to top academic schools. Same thing every year.

Go to the events hosted by both schools. See where you DS feels comfortable. Have him do another shadow day maybe 1/2 with a 9th grader and 1/2 with his future classmates.

Both schools are great schools. You noted he is strong academically and on the field- have him talk to the coaches and teachers. Both schools are great. Best of luck

Which sports other than Lacrosse are so much better?

Anonymous wrote:In terms of matriculation, Potomac has 20% of its graduates going to Ivy or equivalent colleges (top 16 schools in the US news and World Report ranking, excluding Norte Dame and Vanderbilt) from 2015 to 2019. Google Potomac matriculation and set up a simple Excel file to confirm this, if you do not believe.

Tell me the number for the same statistics for Landon.

dig deeper...the athletic stars sign at prestigious colleges. for the kids who are academic stars, where do they end up matriculating?....I have kids in US at Potomac and a number of parents have been very disappointed with college placement in the last couple of years.

The fact somebody posted to compare Potomac to 2 schools makes me think they are a booster of Potomac or their kid didn’t get accepted to Landon or GZ and has a bone to pick.

Yes- Potomac booster you are the best. You are winning at life—-(even if most people in DC haven’t heard of the school). Feel better now?
