Coronavirus good Uplifting and hopeful news only

Despite no military style quarantine and dense populations, other countries that have the cases somehow dont goet as many in the equivalent time frame. The same is true to other Chinese provinces. They dont follow
Hubei curve. Just look at data.

That's 20 times the fatality rate of the flu. I appreciate the spirit of this thread, but minimizing the very real threat COVID-19 poses increases the danger because it will encourage people to ignore warnings and recommendations.

Yes but just .2% up until age 60

So still double the flu, although the numbers I’ve seen only give .2% until age 50, when it then appears to jump to about 3%, then 8% over 70 and 15% over 80.

Transmission rates also appear to be about double the flu.

It’s the rate calculated on questionable numbers. Don’t get too hung up on it.

You mean like the numbers coming out of China where it’s suspected that they may be manipulating data to minimize the severity?

Exactly.

Sometimes hard times bring the best in people. The guy never in his wildest dreams knew he had this skill in him. They don’t teach you how to cut the hair with two mile sticks at the Hair and Beard college.

As of February 25, ... Singapore had 91 confirmed cases and no fatalities.

Further illustrates how death rate depends on the country. Singapore suffered past epidemics and being so close to China, so denseley populated, travel hub took early measures that are paying off.

No news to report but I do have a question.

Will Lysol spray kill the virus? or something like hand sanitizer help?

91 confirmed cases but only 58 recoveries so far, there are still a lot of unknowns for Singapore.

Yes, it will. It's a virus like all the others. But really, you don't need sanitizer- soap and water work just as well.

Only 77,000 have had the coronavirus.
It seems like everyone has it, but you have to focus on the fact that 1.385 billion in China are still healthy.

Thank you for outing it in perspective. Very helpful, yet overlooked.

EUROPE...

Highlights from the current report posted 3 hours ago
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/02/cases-rise-prepared-coronavirus-europe-200225114250676.html

.... significant investments made by European nations in public healthcare, as well as overarching coordination from the ECDC, have made the continent more resilient to viral outbreaks compared with much of the world, he added.

"Because of the heightened alert, and [European] countries getting more and more prepared because of what's happening there, we might not see something as major as Italy again."...

Health ministers in nearby France, Germany and Greece have suggested they could order similarly stringent measures

"What the different countries do will be driven by their previous experience and capacity in public health, and that does vary from country to country, even within the European Union,"

France, which at the time of publication had recorded 17 cases and two deaths, has prepared 108 hospitals, with at least one in every region, to admit, isolate and care for coronavirus patients. It has also boosted testing capacity in hospitals in Paris and Marseille to more than 1,400 per day...

Germany's health ministry has allocated 23 million euros ($25m) to its coronavirus response and said it was "well prepared" for new cases, noting its advanced warning and reporting system and a coordinated network of specialist clinics....the overall risk in Germany remains low, according to the Robert Koch Institute, a government research agency.

Switzerland has tightened measures at border crossings with neighbouring Italy, as authorities improve testing lab capacity and widen awareness campaigns. The interior ministry has announced tests will be made available to all people exhibiting flu-like symptoms..... country's risk level remains low

I think it’s good that people in the US are starting to take this more seriously, ask questions, and prepare.
