Now legally speaking, I don’t think anyone can do anything to you and you should just keep quiet and hope your house doesn’t get toilet papered.

"Show concern"? WTH. You mean look to see if it's injured and take it to the vet??? It's not a pet. You people are crazy.

Yes, I might be crazy. But if I hit or injure another living thing it does concern me. I’m OK to be in the minority on this and I really don’t care what random Internet strangers think.

So you expect that if someone accidentally runs over a goose, they should take it to the vet and have it treated? I agree that calling animal control to remove an injured or dead animal is a good idea.

I never said that I would expect anyone to take an injured goose to the vet. You’re putting words into my mouth. I think calling animal control to make sure or maybe even just moving it to the side of the road would be concerned. I don’t see where I said anything differently.

I am not touching or moving any dead or wounded goose, squirrel, possum, deer etc to the side of the road. You call the county, let them deal with it. Someone hit a little deer in front of my house once. Called 311 and said they needed to send someone out to remove. Since it was the weekend, they sent a cop. He moved it off the road and county roads guy collected the remains on Monday.

We own a lake house, and it’s dock is overrun by Canadian geese. They are protected and we cannot kill them, trap them, harm them, or injure them in any way, shape, or form.

Op- you have a neighborhood of pi$$ed off animal lovers on your case. You may wish to consult an attorney.

We’d love to off our geese, but it’s illegal to do so.

If the moderator happens to be part of the save the goose faction then you can escalate to whatever level is above community moderator on Next-door.

You should get the picture of your license plate taken down because eventually one of the goose zealots will post where you live. The animal crazies on Next-door have nothing better to do and they will sit looking out their window trying to spot your car.

Best advise here. It was an accident. You are not entirely sure what happened. So deny deny deny.

So you couldn’t wait 3 mins for them to cross the road?

Op you gonna probably die from being run over by a car. Karma is real.

I hope you get arrested.

Aholes like you are making our streets dangerous...you’re the type to mow down kids because of impatience/texting.

While animal control to remove the dead goose is a good idea, I do not think it is illegal to not call animal control.

OP - you should get Next-door to take down your picture. Tell the moderator that you had no idea that you ran into a goose and were shocked when you saw the post.

It is illegal to harm or kill these birds. You actually can be arrested. I would definitely lay low, don't admit fault and if confronted say it was an accident. Cry a little.

Oh, wow! I can't believe they're protected!

What is even more odd is it is legal to kill geese May 1 - August 31.

Go farther than deny. Say the person is mistaken. You are not the person. (Even if you were it was an accident) calm down idiots. A car hit a goose. It’s happens.

+2 Get the pictures removed and if anyone asks you have no idea what they are talking about

NP. Animal control officers would take the goose to a shelter if it’s still alive and a vet would evaluate it there. It might not be useful to take the goose to a regular vet because birds have different anatomies from cats and dogs and you’d need to track down an avian vet. But, animal rescue officers know where to take injured animals (like City Wildlife in DC, and I believe there’s one in Maryland, maybe in Damascus, that the MoCo animal officers would take the goose to). These specialized places have vets, xrays and other equipment and can make a decision about treatment or euthanasia.

Canada Geese might be protected in the US under the Migratory Bird Treat Act but I’m not an expert on that.

I’m against animal suffering, but letting Animal Control make the calls seems reasonable. We had a creek in our backyard where I grew up and one day some kids with a bow and arrow shot 24 ducks. My mom piled them into our station wagon with a lot of newspaper and my dad’s blessing (my lawyer dad always regretted not going to vet school) and took them all to the vet, and my parents paid for it.

Again, not saying OP needed to drive even one goose to the vet or a shelter. But if it was injured and not dead, not even calling animal control seems cold.

Why is that odd? Nearly all animals have a hunting season and then it's illegal during other times. Not all animals have federal protection though like geese.

Now if a dog runs out in front of you and you are not at fault thats one thing. But to see a goose crossing and decide you are more importand and just run it over, thats just cruel and you can be charged.

There was an incident in Laurel recently where someone ran over seagulls intentionally, The Police are looking for the suspect.

Agree.

How self-important you are that you couldn't just wait a few minutes and then you justify by saying you "nicked" it, even though you saw you killed it.
