| It’s not the leaving that’s the issue. It’s the fact that you’re in SUCH a hurry you couldn’t wait until the road is clear. You’re an entitled jerk. That’s simply it. |
|
You could actually be charged with animal cruelty. You can't just run an animal over in the road and keep driving. Now if a dog runs out in front of you and you are not at fault thats one thing. But to see a goose crossing and decide you are more importand and just run it over, thats just cruel and you can be charged.
There was an incident in Laurel recently where someone ran over seagulls intentionally, The Police are looking for the suspect. |
| I agree op should have stopped (and since she didn’t and mortally “nicked it” she should have called non-emergency #) but what in the world are you people talking about stopping and removing a big dead bird from the road? A pet you might be able to id or help, yes-big bird with a bunch of its dickish goose friends killing around-no! |

Call the DMV and order a new vanity plate:
GUS KLR Bonus points if you live in Virginia and can get the “Don’t Tread On Me” version. |
Nonsense. The geese just stand there stupidly. The county should be culling these nuisance birds. If the birds were smart like gulls or crows they would get the message that cars are dangerous, but they are so dumb they will just stand there. Good riddance. |
Aside from the "show concern" poster, people are telling her she should have gotten it out of the road. She doesn't have to do that personally with a shovel (although with other large animals this may be a possibility - with a goose you are correct she would be attacked). But by calling animal control. She showed no concern for the animals by killing it instead of waiting a minute, and she showed no concern to the neighborhood by leaving an animal carcass in the street (and next to the pond, which if I know my planned neighborhood fake pastoral touches, was probably right by the playground). |

So I actually work at Fish and Wildlife Service. Canada geese are a federally protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (ridiculous in the case of these nuisance birds!) It is illegal to harm or kill these birds. You actually can be arrested. I would definitely lay low, don't admit fault and if confronted say it was an accident. Cry a little.

You're so funny! I love birds, but all that you wrote is absurd. Geese aren't a protected species: they are invasive. |
|
People have gone batshit crazy over nonhuman creatures. It easier than dealing with their people problems. |
Oh, wow! I can't believe they're protected! |
FWS person here. Google the migratory bird treaty act. |
|
I'm an animal lover, but... who cares????? Move on with your life, OP. |
If Trump has his dithers, the Migratory Bird Treaty will be dispensed with. I was just reading about the issue this morning. |
| Has the Canadian Ambassador reached out to Pompeo? |
I got it now! Trump wants to repeal much of the treaty, though. |
