FCV has scrimmaged 2 ECNL clubs in the past month...and won most age groups easily. There were some tough age groups. Even a broken clock is right twice a day! ECNL Mid Atlantic is the weakest in ECNL. To say the FCV DA team are not any good is just trolling. You know better as does everyone on this board. |
Nobody has said that FCV teams are not good. What has been said is that moving forward with 07, 08, 09 and on Loudoun will retain their talent they used to lose in the past to FCV. This is already proving true. FCV ID session numbers are down form years past and Loudoun players on their top 07 and younger teams have remained in tact. FCV is no longer a destination club it is a simple as that. Does that mean their teams will not be good? No, but it does mean that they will no longer be able to just sit back and wait for the talent to stream in at U13 and U14 like in years past. But what goes around also comes around. It also means that kids who have been in FCV's system, as long as they are starting will not likely move either but Loudoun has a much, much deeper player pool to pull form and establish depth. FCV traditionally built depth by bringing in top talent pushing players to the bench and without many other showcasing options those players stayed and sucked it up. But now with all the DA and ECNL clubs around it is almost impossible to have a deep and content/happy bench as in years past. |
Maybe the bold was interpreted incorrectly. |
True to some degree. I'm hearing players across many teams either looking or planning to look this spring. They want more PT. Only a few on each roster play every game all game, a very few. We'll see what happens...it is the beginning of the crazy season. |
Yup, but players looking to improve playing time are not to be considered the "top" talent, at least in the eyes of the club who is sitting them. Remember, I said earlier that the only movement will be primarily swapping one teams subs for another. Beauty is in in the eye of the beholder. The point is that the concentration of talent we used to see in years past is no longer happening. Most parents are not willing to drop 7k a year to have their kid sit on the bench if they can move their kid to a team where they will play. Bubble starters will prioritize playing time over the supposed benefits of wearing a particular club logo. |
IMO and based on watching a lot of the clubs and games in this area, the benches on the FCV rosters are much deeper than the surrounding clubs. The teams rotate so many players with no drop off in production. Maybe the large rosters are for revenue, maybe for depth, maybe for who knows...but they are going to run kids off doing it. But a good number, if they leave FCV, will displace starters on current teams. And rightfully so. |
Water seeks its level. Yes, those FCV players will displace other players likely raising the level of the teams they went to while also lowering the level of the FCV team they left. |
Not always swapping subs, however, the bold above is true. Sometimes a player needs a fresh pair of eyes that may value their talent differently. Not every coach is looking for the same thing out of players. Even the top soccer teams vary in their style of play. Take forwards. Some teams want a tall forward for headers for aerial game if the team likes to cross it into the box and corners versus an Aguero shorter faster striker type if they prefer the passing ground game more. Or maybe they have 2 of one type and would swap one out for what they don't have to make it harder to defend against the team. |
That just isn’t true. Well we will never know because they won’t scrimmage will they? Bottom line is they do have good teams but ECNL still has more competition and we will never really know until the best teams go against each other. |
| Sports is full of very talented players that are blocked by the known talent in front of them. Too many examples to mention of players who shift teams and then blossom when given a chance to shine. |
We are in agreement. Regarding the subs I stated “not to be considered the "top" talent, at least in the eyes of the club who is sitting them”. |
Oh it is. I sat in the cold and made the drive to MD for both. Bethesda and Maryland U. |
what? You drove to Maryland to watch other children’s teams play? And your DD didn’t play in that? That’s weird or you are trying to prove the worth at FCV. Either way you still won’t know if FCV teams are better until they play each other. |
| Maybe FCV Dad is sitting in the cold at Muldoons right now reading these posts. Keeping tabs on MD teams. Dedicated. |
