BREAKFAST IS DEAD! At least this is what Dr. Oz wants us to think..

I feel ill if I skip breakfast. I just have a bowl of oatmeal but definitely need it.

Seriously though, waiting until you are hungry leads to overeating. Or so they told me last year.

BK lady, is that you?

I remember a diet article in a magazine arguing that you shouldn't eat until you are so hungry everything looks good, even plain lettuce. But that's not how it works. When I'm really hungry I want to grab the first thing that has substance and cram it in, I think.

He used to have some credibility. Not sure what happened.

Coffee and cigarettes is a great way to start the day.

Oh, this is the best thing anyone has said on this thread. I lost 65 pounds and am keeping it off. For years I listened to the fluctuating list of things I “should or shouldn’t do” and my eating was completely disordered. I have used WW as a basic framework but the most important thing that I have learned is that I need to do what works for me. Part of what works for me is a lean, but hearty breakfast because I wake up very hungry. Dr. Oz can keep walking...

It is something. It has tons of calories. It fills the stomach.
So.. technically you can call it liquid breakfast. Still breakfast.

I am one of the earlier coffee only posters and fwiw, I have a little skim milk and no sugar in my coffee.

Coffee is my breakfast. I have to be at work at 6:30am. No time to eat and not hungry at that hour anyway.

I bike to work really fast (because I'm often running late), and there's no way in hell I'm doing that on an empty stomach.

Dr. Oz peddles in insecurities.

I have breakfast (usually a hardboiled egg or avocado and a piece of wheat toast) and coffee with skim milk. I usually eat around 7:30. Maybe it would be nice to wait til 9 or 10, but I can't eat at work and don't get lunch til around noon or sometimes even 1 depending on my schedule. I would be totally crashing if I didn't eat breakfast.

FWIW, I eat an early dinner (around 5:30) and don't snack or drink after that. So probably, I'm taking about the same amount of time off food as people who eat a mid-morning breakfast or early lunch but eat a later dinner.

And I totally agree with the poster who said that nutritional advice is infuriating. It swings back and forth all the time. I've maintained my weight through my 30s and 40s and 3 pregnancies so I'm not going to change things up no matter what "the experts" say.

Break-Fast is technically the 1st thing you eating after fasting while asleep. The time doesn't matter. So for those of you that eat at 10am or 11am, that is technically your "breakfast". I didn't read the link, but if all he was saying is that you don't have to eat as soon as you wake up from your sleeping hours, he is correct. We ALL have a "break-fast", we just eat it at different times.

BTW, I don't think that Dr. Oz is a quack. A few years ago, I was sitting in the waiting room at Presbyterian Hospital in NYC (I think that is the one assoc with Columbia), and he and another surgeon came out to give a family member an update on their loved one. I had forgotten he was actually a "real doc", since his TV show is all about ratings, and I didn't trust everything he said on that show. But after that, I was like "Oh yeah, he actually does know what he is doing/saying".

I usually work out at 5am because it's the only time of day I have to myself. On the days I do, I find that I am hungry by the time I'm showered and dressed an hour or two later, so I have a small bowl of high-fiber cereal and coffee for breakfast. Ironically, I have trouble getting my DS (8) to eat breakfast - he always says he's not hungry. I give him breakfast but don't fret if he only eats a little or none of it..

That doesn’t mean it’s heslthy.

And waiting until 6 p.m. to eat dinner is?

No it would healthier to eat at 9 or 10 but your school doesn’t care about health, another reason our kids are f’d.

Most people are at work by 9 or 10. Whether or not they have the flexibility to eat while working depends on their work setting. I would imagine teachers and medical professionals have trouble finding time to eat.

Most people don't eat like that on a typical morning. Who the hell has time for that on a work day? What you're showing here is a rare treat out on a weekend morning, which we all deserve.

+1

I wake up hungry with my stomach growling. Of course, I am done eating for the night by 6:45.... so, yeah... I'm hungry at 6 or 7 a.m.
