BREAKFAST IS DEAD! At least this is what Dr. Oz wants us to think..

Dr. Oz is a nut, but I never eat breakfast. I feel sick if I eat before 11 and I’m not hungry anyway because I drink coffee with half and half. So I eat two meals a day instead of three...so what.

I would never eat when I’m not hungry just to eat. I don’t snack either. Everyone is different!

I never eat breakfast either and never have regularly. I just drink coffee. Like others, I tend to feel nauseated if I eat first thing and coffee suppresses my appetite anyway. But we tend to eat very late dinners, like nine or after, so that probably contributes to my lack of need to eat before 1 or so.

Occasionally I forget to eat breakfast. But usually I wake up hungry so I eat.

I stopped eating breakfast about 1.5 years ago when I was 40. I drink coffee with 3/4 cups of milk. Usually, I have lunch at 1 or 2 pm and am only slightly hungry.

Lost 30 lbs - but that's mostly to a calorie deficit and low carb. But it's definitely waaaay easier to eat less when you have a smaller feeding window.

This is an excellent example of how bad our nutrition and health science is. For years we were told breakfast was the most important meal of the day, including for weight loss (I especially loved the “ eating breakfast is important to jump start your metabolism”). Now intermittent fasting is the hot thing and suddenly breakfast is bad. Nutritionists really have no clue, and doctors don’t either.

Seriously though, waiting until you are hungry leads to overeating. Or so they told me last year.

BK lady, is that you?

Every body is different. Do what works best for yours.

+1
Anyone making conclusive sounding statements needs to be a bit more tentative because they are going to eat their words. Har har.

I eat breakfast at 9 if I do a 5:30 am workout. Otherwise I just have coffee, maybe a little fruit around 11 and then i eat decent lunch. I'm not fat but not thin either.i I st don't want to eat until I've been up a few hours.

I had no idea so many people considered Dr. Oz to be a "quack".

He's a board certified cardiologist - so I don't understand this sentiment.

Not that I'm a DO supporter, I couldn't care less actually. I'm just curious why so many think he's a quack.

It’s no big deal.

You should do an AMA!

Because he is about his brand and making money instead of making medically sound and appropriate recommendations.

Well, coffee with half and half and pile of sugar technically counts as breakfast.
It is something. It has tons of calories. It fills the stomach.
So.. technically you can call it liquid breakfast. Still breakfast.

NP, and I think the real issue is that different things work for different people, aka precision/personalized medicine. So, sure, some people don’t need breakfast. Others, like me, wake up hungry. Any physician in this day and age who issues these kinds of broad proclamations about something like this shouldn’t be trusted. It’s not like smoking, on which the data are pretty unequivocal that it’s not worth the risk for anyone. It’s like if a doctor talks about nature vs. nurture—run away.
