I don't get the complaints. They make sense based on club performance, and iter 2 still plays tier 1 if it's within their conference. But it makes for more evenly matched games for everyone. When VDA starts blowing out all the competition it faces (or Arlington, whichever), then that's worth talking about.

Except Crossfire was placed in tier 2 after finishing in the first place ahead of four MLS academies in their division on the boys side.

One age group was performing well, but not as a club across the board. And yet they aren't across the board blowing anyone out either. Either tier though can make the play offs, and they will still have conference games against tier 1. Besides, you're talking a single club.

The age group that dominated against MLS clubs was moved, other age groups are still in the same tier. On that note none of the MLS academies that performed poorly were moved to tier 2.

I confess I just realized that all of these complaints and issues are hitting uniquely the boys' U19s. I was trying to see who had these schedules and it is uniquely that age group that this is hitting really hard. I checked several clubs across several age groups and that's what I found. I'm not there yet, but I do confess that the U19 age group for boys is a problem. A lot of boys drop out for high school once they commit and these teams are unstable. I guess when people hit that age group, they have a decision to make. It might not hurt for parents to have a massive email campaign and bombard US Soccer about it.

It's worthy of note that huge complaints about combined age groups on the girls' side forced them to split the 16s and 17s. And the boys' ECNL is having some impact.

I sympathize.

The complaints are related to travel. Richmond and VDA will go to a Florida 4 times this year.

I guess, but when you sign on for national league teams, you sign on for travel.

The division has always been in the mid atlantic. The da informed clubs on July 31 that they’d be traveling to Florida for league games. That was not expected.

You are exaggerating. People, go on www.ussoccerda.com and see the schedules for yourselves to make an informed decision.

So is "going to Florida" mean you are in the good tier or the weak one?

Just because you don’t like the information doesn’t mean it’s an exaggeration.

I like the tier system. It makes sense. It's creating more level matches. The only whiners I hear are on this forum. Everyone I meet is happy with it. So like other things on this forum, you may be an outlier. I have no reason to think otherwise.

If a club wants to change tiers, improve performance.

Difficult to do with that sort of travel and expense.

Crossfire finished first in their division that had 4 mls academies 2 years in a row. How can they improve on that performance? Last year. Portland Timbers finished 7th with -24 goal difference in the same division, but were placed in tier 1, while Crossfire was placed in tier 2. The tiers are NOT based on merit. http://www.ussoccerda.com/sam/standings/league/standings.php?leagueId=MTA5Ng%3D%3D

I don't know anyone at Crossfire but I always wondered if US Soccer will under the table punish clubs for withdrawing the way the ECNL went after clubs. Everything is political.

VDA- seems to have a strong pool from VSA next year I wouldn’t count on PWSI for much help with how they been going down hill lately.

Loudoun- As always Loudoun will have much of Loudoun County to choose from so Loudoun Soccer maybe some girls from SYA? Overall I don't see Loudoun having a strong team with the current girls team.

Metro United- Im confused about this one. Where are they again? Great Falls/Reston area?

Mclean- They better hope to recruit girls from Maryland if they wish to become a group of elite girls. Didn’t do good at Discovery group.

FCV- This is one is interesting to see what they do next year. Are they staying in Loudoun? Moving to Springfield? If they move to Springfield the current girls now will make Loudoun soccer that much stronger. In springfield they have SYC, LMVSC, Alexandria, and even Annandale clubs to pull from so a decent team.

BRYC- Nobody cares

McLean is a sh$thole. Run from the parents that suck up to H. and J.A.

Until Jaon is removed in some post-Keith era the club has an issue.

BRYC is the biggest hole ever. Talk about parents sucking up.

Only U19B this year but could be expanded to U17B next year. You will have to wait for the schedule to be published in August to know.
A 2-tier system can make sense if there is room for promotion-relegation, but as the MLS team will not be relegated however bad they are (hello DCU), many good non-MLS clubs will stay in the second tier, having an insane travel schedule against average competition.
The is not about player development this is about pushing the most eager players to play for the MLS academies.
