What do you mean by genius?

And what does “in my many, many years of MCPS magnet world” mean?

I think it means your child is NOT as smart as you think. Dumba$$.

Bingo!

Doing well academically is possible. Doing exceptionally well in many different kinds of intellectual pursuits in different areas and industries...that is amazing, Till date I have seen only one kid who was a genius. However, magnet is not about a genius kid, It is for kids who are GT and need this kind of academic acceleration and enrichment.

I have been teaching in the CES for years and have taught a number of highly gifted kids. Some of them have astonished me and are probably geniuses. The majority have been impressive in various ways.

On what basis, PP with “many, many years of MCPS magnet world,” do you make these assertions?

IQ, achievement, you name it. If it's an intelligence or achievement test it comes back 99th percentile. My sibling did not prep for the SAT yet scores were high enough for HPY. Sibling was also very relaxed about school. Things were very easy.

Such kids exist so stop jumping on PP.

My kid is one of those. Perfect SAT scores, 10 scores of five on APs, straight As in an MCPS magnet.

No wringer, no prepping, and I take zero credit. This is how this kid came into the world.

Please, would you share your kid's MAP-M score(s) in MS?

10 APs with score of 5 + perfect SAT/ACT, that’s not impressive. Every other kid in magnet has that. What’s so special??

Actually, fewer than 20 magnet seniors graduated with a weighted GPA over 4.75. My kid was one of them. That is impressive by any measure, given that the magnet accepts only 100 students each year to begin with.

My senior currently has a 4.8 in the magnet. She is not a genius. She is not even a strong magnet student. She does do well in school.

PP said nothing about “genius.”

Is your daughter a senior? That GPA as a magnet senior likely puts her in the top 5% of her class. That is impressive by any measure.

Just meant to say that you can do well in the magnet without being a 'genius' however you define that.

And you didn’t answer my question.

Only 300 students a year get a perfect SAT score and I highly doubt that 50 of them live in Montgomery County. The average SAT score for the Magnet program is very high and they typically have between 35-40 NMSFs and I am sure several students get perfect scores but perhaps not half

For our students the MCPS magnets were worthwhile. They were not world-class education as you would expect from schooling in a 1st world country, but, it was better than what was being offered in the rest of the county schools and private schools.

Are the defining perfect as 800 (which is not necessarily perfect) or every answer correct. 2 different things.

your statement doesn't even make sense. MCPS offered what was better than other publics and privates but your children didn't receive a world-class education? STOP.THE.DRAMA.

This is the worst thread ever. I can't believe how rude and mean people are being. No useful information conveyed, just ad hominem attacks. Be kinder, people.

Once stupid parents start bragging about "perfect SAT/ACT/GPA" or use words like "genius" to describe their kids, you know it's going to end up in a sh8t pool.

Then the 4.8 GPA doesn’t matter in the context of this conversation.
