10 APs with score of 5 + perfect SAT/ACT, that’s not impressive. Every other kid in magnet has that. What’s so special?? |
NP here, come on --- we are talking about magnet worthwhile, not a contest for being special. This parent is proud of his/her DC's performance at magnet -- that is impressive to most parents. |
With all the different HS scores...MS scores are quickly forgotten, |
Quite convenient but with all due respect it does not seem consistent with a parent that is not only very proud about its kid's achievements but also willing to share this here. Nine (9) scores in MS. Don't you remember the decade (270s, 280s)? |
| At TPMS, most magnets score over 280 on MAP-M and some over 300 --according to DC. |
If that’s so, then I deserve blame for my other kid’s struggles. Sure, we have provided a print-rich, stable home environment for our kids, trips to museums, time outdoors, etc. we gave them the tools for learning. But their achievements, successes, and their struggles and failures as well are theirs and theirs alone. |
PP here. I have no memory of that. |
Actually, fewer than 20 magnet seniors graduated with a weighted GPA over 4.75. My kid was one of them. That is impressive by any measure, given that the magnet accepts only 100 students each year to begin with. |
What do you mean by genius? |
And what does “in my many, many years of MCPS magnet world” mean? |
I think it means your child is NOT as smart as you think. Dumba$$. |
Bingo!
Doing well academically is possible. Doing exceptionally well in many different kinds of intellectual pursuits in different areas and industries...that is amazing, Till date I have seen only one kid who was a genius. However, magnet is not about a genius kid, It is for kids who are GT and need this kind of academic acceleration and enrichment. |
Dying to know why PP’s kid will be in therapy, oh wise one. Enlighten us! |
Complete waste. Don’t bother sending your kid. Spread the word that it’s better to stay in your home school.

My senior currently has a 4.8 in the magnet. She is not a genius. She is not even a strong magnet student. She does do well in school. |
